Sounds like they were looking for a felon on parole. In that case, if he gave your address as his own, they can come in a nd "inspect" pretty much anytime they like. No warrant needed.
Cool being involved with a convict huh? Suggest you stay away from the bad boy types if you don't want to become familiar with local law enforcement...........

There has to be some legal reason for them to be there, police just don't enter anyones home and do as they please, or shall I say "can't" without a warrant. There are some exceptions to the rule of having to "have" a warrant, and the main one would be if there is a crime in their presence and a person fled into a home while police are in pursuit, they would not need a warrant, or shots fired in a home, and they need to enter (and a few other reasons, too many to list). The police have to be prepared to show cause for their actions. Many states vary, but you have to look at what you are doing or have done, and what kind of people you hang out with, and this plays a part. But if you have done "nothing" and not involved in "anything", call the police interal affairs, or get an attorney.

They cannot search your house without giving you the warrent itself. If they did so without you being served with the warrent, then you got a case of civil rights violation here. Talk to internal affairs, if they don't do anything, talk toi the state's attorney general, if they don't respond, talk to the FBI.

2 Things!!!
1st talk with a lawyer that you trust and let him handle the police.
2nd get the news involved. Let them start questioning the police and asking them why they are breaking the law. They have to show you the search warrant!!

Start by changing your lifestyle. Find new friends, hobbies, career, or activites that don't bring police to your home to serve warrants and tear up your stairs.

You need to contact your Local ACLU office and find out the procedure about filing a complaint in local area. Ask them too about lessons on your civil rights on this matter. They will best advise you than anyone on Yahoo Answers.
