I got a tattoo 7 days ago and I've been putting A & D ointmint on it 4 to 5 times a day. Yet I don't see any scabbing or peeling of the skin. It kinda itches, but it looks fine. How soon can will my tat begin to peel or scab, did I just skip the middle man?

You should cut back to 2 times a day. Tattoos are kind of like a sunburn as far as healing. The top layer should lightly peel or shed. I don't ever use A & D on any of mine. My preference is Lubriderm Unscented lotion. The itching is normal but don't do it. You can put a warm compress on it, slap it, lightly rub it. If it does scab don't peel/pick it off or you'll pull out the ink. All tat's heal differently based on the artist, inks used, location & how it was taken care of. I have 12+ tats & more to come. So I do speak from my own experience. I wouldn't use the Tattoo Goo. My daughters friend used it and well she had to have it gone over again because it dulled out the colors & dried out her skin pretty bad.

I have had several tatoos and not all of them healed the same. Some never had a scab. Whatever you do don't scratch your new tattoo. Smacking it can help relieve the itch. If you scratch it you could create a scab and then it will lose color in the spot that you created the scab. Sounds like your tattoo is healing normally.

You don't want to put anything that has a petroleum base on your new tattoo. Try getting some TattooGoo and use it 2x a day. Within a couple of days it will be almost healed. Itching is normal it means that it is trying to heal. Don't itch it! You can rub it gently and it will help take away the itch. You're best bet is Tattoo Goo you can most likely find it at your tattoo shop. It works fantasic and we swear by it.
Hope this helps and good luck....congrats on the new art!

if it is 7 days old and you are still putting ointment on your tattoo 4 to 5 times a day...its too much. you are keeping it too moist and by doing that so many times a day, you are not letting it dry out to form a scab and heal. try using the ointment 1 or two times a day from now until it starts to form the scab.

Absolutely DO NOT use Tattoo Goo. You are doing good by using A&D. Just try to ease up on the frequency. You may not even get a scab. Some do, some don't. You are doing a good job with the aftercare. Good luck and happy tattooing!!

Also, DO NOT use neosporin. Neosporin is made to drawn poisons out of your skin. Your skin thinks tattoo ink is a poison, so....

Well my husband is a tattoo artist and he tells his customers to use viteman e or coca butter on it. The key is to keep it moist and clean and if you take good care of it then it is not supose to peel or scab.
It is only itching becasue it is in the end of the healing process.
So i'd say your doing a great job of taking care of it.

Neosporin makes your tattoo heal faster than anything else. The scab will fall off on its own. So when you get a new tat be sure and use...Dun Dun na na! NEOSPORIN!
