Pick an image that means something to you. Maybe you have a real thing for unicorns because they symbolize purity for you? Something like that.
DON'T get a boyfriend's name tatooed on yourself. Boyfriends come and go, tattoos are forever!
Start with something small. You can also get that first image added to, if you decide that you like it a lot.
ALWAYS get your first tattoo in a place that is easily hidden ESPECIALLY in an office atmosphere. So high on your right thigh would seem the better choice to me because of this. Many employers will not consider a tattooed individual for advancement, no matter HOW good they are at their job!
Take care of your tattoo as the artist tells you too. If you've gotten a coloured tattoo it needs special babying for awhile. Make sure you are clear on what lotions to use and when.

The one thing I don't think anyone should do is get a pointless tattoo. My brother has two of them, one is barbed wire around his arm (he didn't know at the time it meant you were in prison) and snake coming out of tare. I don't think he really likes them now. My friend got his last name tattooed on his arm and everyone says the same thing why did you get that? He tells them it is a family tradition but no one in his family I know has the tattoo. My suggestion is get something with a symbolic meaning. All of mine do and what I have notice is they evolve with time. Which is really cool when you come up with something that has a simple meaning to you and later you find out it has a more universal meaning. If it is more personal to you you will be less likely to regret it. Another one of my friend got a blue cross on his arm with some sort of black wing weird looking things. He wishes now that he never got it. I have a cross on my arm that say 3dayz in it and everyone asks me the same question "what does three dayz mean" another tattoo artist said it was like a conversation piece which cool at first but now I am tired of telling people the obvious meaning to it. All my tattoo's have more than one meaning so I tell different people different things. The more it means something to you you won't care what other people think.

1. don't get flash. get something that is customized to you. don't limit yourself to what you see on the walls. you'll be glad later when you see how unoriginal some flash can be.
2. research your artist. make sure that whomever does your tattoo is talented. because not everyone who operates a tattoo gun is a tattoo ARTIST.
3. look at portfolios and make sure that you like what you see. different tattooers have different styles and some styles may appeal to you more than others.
4. keep your tattoo away from the sun! your skin is easily damaged by the sun but your tattoo is even more easily damaged. sunscreen won't protect your ink. so keep it away from the sun at all costs to keep it looking fresh and beautiful.
5. when caring for your new tattoo put only fragrance free lotion on it and wash it daily with antibacterial soap. don't put baby oil or vaseline or neosporin on it. stick with fragrance free lotions.
hope all of that helps! good luck!

Pick what you want to get... wait a few months then see if you still want that same thing or one at all.... Tattoos are forever, and if you make a rash decision then you'll regret it when you are older....
Make sure what ever you pick has meaning to you and only you.
Also put it somewhere that you can hide if need be, so I'd say right thigh.

Pick something you will be able to live with for a LONG time. Make sure you put it somewhere that you can cover up if you want to be inconspicuous. The pain's not so bad, it feels like a cat scratch. Make sure to take care of the tattoo after you get it.. .lots of Neosporin and cream for a while.. and always put sunscreen on it so it won't fade over time.

Go to a good, clean reputable shop. Make sure you are getting exactly what you want. As far as location, I don't know you well enough to say one place or another but keep in mind which will be easier to cover (if that's your concern) and keep in mind which area will hold up better as you get older. And definitely take care of it afterward. Most tattoos get messed up during the healing process, so take care of it.

1.make sure it's something that you want on your body forever.
2.make sure you go to a properly licensed, clean professional.
3. make sure you keep it clean and care for it properly until fully healed.
Always remember that people are going to be closed minded about the whole thing. It's nobody's business but your own. Not everybody is into tattoos or piercings but not everybody has to get it done. I always tell people that opinions are like a$$holes...everybody has one! :-) It's your choice and your decision. It doesn't matter what other people think.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I would say to get a small one..nothing too big..it is easier to cover it up if small or on a not too noticeable area, therefore if you don't like it, easy to cover up. The cost it to consider too and the cost to have it removed is way more than the cost to have it done. Make a wise and well thought out decision for you.

I would say "don't do it!" I have one that I loved for about a month --but then have regretted getting it ever since. It also cost alot of money to have one removed and depending on what colors are within the tattoo can make it difficult to have it removed completely--Think hard before you get it done--It is permanent.
