First thing is first...do you pick his/her dish up after he/she is fed? This will most times cease all meowing concerning the "feed me" meow for hours to come. Also, are you feeding at set times? If not, this could provoke kitty to think they can eat whenever they want to. And if you are the one controlling thier food intake (not leaving a big bowl out for them to nibble on all day, or an automatic pet feeder), you are the timekeeper. I have set times to feed our kitty. Generally between 8:30AM and 10AM our kitty gets fed. Then again between 4:30PM and 6PM every evening; with a snack of food at 11PM to tide him over into the next morning. The only time I get the meow that does not stop is when I wake up in the morning, and before dinner. Any other time is typically because I left the food dish down and he thinks he can go there anytime for food; but since he sees it empty, he feels it is his responsiblity to remind me to feed him even during off feeding times. So when I take up the dish, after about 5 minutes of a song and dance, he gives up and goes and entertains himself by by napping or whatever he desires in the house until the next feeding.

Just some food for thought. Maybe my experience can help trigger some ideas for you.

Cats are NOT grazers by nature and leaving dry food down for them all day is not a good idea. The smell of any food stimulates the body to go into a food digestion mode. Blood is drawn to the stomach constantly and is deflected from other organs in the body - heart, liver, kidneys etc. Lack of fresh blood supply to those organs can damage them over time.

It's hard to respond to your question because you don't give the age and/or health condition of your cat. Much of the commercial cat food is such poor quality it does not need the nutritional needs of cats. So your cat may just be hoping to get some good quality food. If you flood your system constantly with carbohydrate or sugar you will be hungry constantly and not feel very good - it is the same for your cat if he has a diet of 2/3 corn and not sufficient meat protein to meet his body's needs.

If you're cat is old.. it could be going senile. My 16 year old cat does the same thing. Every time I walk into the kitchen or I go near her bed she starts meowing for food and sometimes she just meows for abosolutely no reason.

If you have only one cat then it’s best to leave a bowl of dry food out for him/her. Cut back to feeding canned wet food for just breakfast or dinner. Or split one can of food into two portions. A cat can over eat and make herself sick or over time become fat. Make sure to play with your cat everyday. It may also be that your cat is just bored. Try something new, like a box or moving toy. Those motion sensor toys for kids work wonders.

Cats are naturally grazers - which means that they like to eat a little at a time very often. If you just leave out a bowl of dry food your kitty will be able to eat when it wants (dry food is better for kitties than wet anyway)

If your cat is full grown and stays indoors it may be meowing to go outside to meet another cat, the only way fix this is to fix the cat.
