In a persuasive speech you take one side of an argument and you try to persuade others to agree with you. So you need to choose a topic where there are clearly differences of opinion, and if really persuading people is important to the speech, you want to choose a topic you think you can win.
Choose something that interests you and that way you will sound more sincere and believable.
Some topics that are suit well for persuasive speeches might include:
- use of marijuana for medicinal purposes
- for or against capital punishment
- is world over-population real or is it an urban myth
- abortion
- smoking policy and smoking in public places
- should children watch "The Simpsons"

I just taught that unit to my Jr. High class. Some hot topics were
"no pass, no play," dress code/school uniforms, standardized testing, and lack of elective options. Maybe one of these will give you something to chew on.
