Neuralgia may be EXTREMELY painful. There are a number of options to treat neuralgia at this time and in most cases the pain may be eliminated or at least made relatively easy to live with. Some neuralgias are also treated by injecting the nerve and if the neuralgia proves difficult to treat the nerve may be destroyed without any loss of function. Thus the bad news is that you have a painful neuralgia but the good news is that any ENT or general physician has an 85% chance of eliminating the pain or making it no more than a minor annoyance which does not affect your life or activities.

It is called a nasal polypectomy, and I certainly would not advise you to have it done under a local anaesthetic, as its extremely painful done that way. It can be done as a day case, or if theres a risk you might bleed (which given your current symptoms it sounds like there is) then its just an overnight stay. You will almost certainly have packs up your nose (like tampons) for 4-6 hours following the op. Good luck!
