No. The whole concept of "vicarious atonement" was invented purely to subjugate and control the masses.
"All your righteousness is as filthy rags." This is the sort of amoral callousness that passes for "morality" amongst the "pious."
It's quite a racket though - I'll give them that. Concepts like "Original Sin" and the salvationist theology of christianity provide a nice system of threats and rewards with which the powers-that-be can exploit the ignorant peasants, and the peasants themselves feel vindicated by the idea that their oppression in this life is securing them a good seat in the Afterlife.

The only reason I dont accept it is that I dont think he is God. I believe in God. I believe that Jesus exsisted. I just cant have Faith that Jesus is God based on scriptures that were written long after his death, handpicked from many scriptures that werent even used!!! If the entire Bible (the old gospels) had been compiled all during the time of Jesus and claimed Jesus was the son of God- or better yet- God himself--- then I would indeed take him as my savior.
In the end, I dont think it matters, As long as you believe that God created you, that you are of the fallen, that you try to live your life well and avoid doing wrong-- then it is up to God to decide where you are going.

It's not just Christians...it's Jesus himself: "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." John 14:7
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. "(John 3:16-18)
However, it seems that a lot of folks have a hard time giving in to the idea that they can't get to heaven on their good deeds. How good is good? Is saving someone's life better than being a faithful husband? Or is dying in a suicide attack more correct than fighting in the war on terrorism?
Getting to heaven is not about what you've done -- but because of he's done.

The fact that you believe this shows you aren't a Christian...therefore you can't go to heaven anyway....cos u obviously don't read the Bible, so you don't know that Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven!
Also, what on earth makes you think you are good enough for God?? Get real

I believe the words of Jesus when He assured us that He is the way, the truth and the life and that no one can come to God except through Him. If you believe that through your deeds you get to Heaven, then you are ignoring the whole matter of original sin, which is present in us all. Only perfection can get us to Heaven without Jesus. Do you really believe that you are perfect? If not, then you will have to rely on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ to justify you before God if you are, indeed, going to be received into Heaven.

Many of us need spiritual guidance. Jesus is just one of the guides. There are others and will be more to come, someday you could be one too. Going to heaven is just part of the story. There is so much more. Have you found heaven on earth? It exists in your heart, and the more you share it the more you will experience it! May Love shine on you every day!

Yes it does! There is only one way to heaven and that is through Jesus Christ.
Your deeds will not get you into heaven.

I agree with you.
I dont think a benevolent creator will reject a genuinely good person because he did not believe in religion X.
I think Christians are going to be surprised when they see Heaven full of Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, and Atheists.

Your deeds will absolutely get you there.
But only if you believe in what Jesus did for you. If you deny Jesus' existence as a redeemer and the son of god then you're gonna need some help

I agree with you totally.
Deeds are the only thing that can take us to heaven, if there is a heaven anyway.
