I don't want to offend anyone, just an honest answers of your true thoughts on this subject.

A friend of mine last year died on the operating table. He non-religious in every way BTW. He is not the type to lie or make up stories and is not dramatic. But the doctors accidentally nicked his
aorda in a routine galbladder operartion, he is one of two people to ever survive this. He describes leaving his body and having a confortation with a being (God). It lasted only moments but he suddenly had about 3 hours of experience in just seconds. He describes it like being in a dark field and a sudden lighting flash, you could later recal seeing a house, a barn and other building in detail even though it lasted for just a second...you see the details in a flash. He said he suddenly understood why things had to be the way they were and was in agreement with the "being". I was greatly shaken by his account and the things he was told by the "being".

I am very curious what you think & believe?

gapeach: Well yes, he converted to Chritanity. He's not blowing a trumpet, he's a very humble person, but he is changed completly. BTW, he has only told his story to 4 other people.

Of course any answer you receive to this question will only be a person's belief on the subject. Though there have been many accounts of people "coming back from the dead" as your friend's story relates, these stories are by their very nature emperically unverifiable. That being said, most religious persons believe in some sort of afterlife with widely varying depictions of what that afterlife is like.

Personally, I have no doubt that any person with even the tiniest flicker of faith in God will live on after this physical body dies. I believe that we continue to progress upward, gradually becoming less material and more spiritual until we become pure spirits. We continue our spiritual training throughout these transformations and even after becoming pure spirits. It will take billions of years before we can successfully answer God's command, "Be you perfect, even as I am perfect.", and experientially perfect ourselves even as God is existentially perfect.

The Urantia Book contains the most logical and comprehensive portrayal of God that I have ever encountered. It gives detailed information on God, how he created life and caused it to evolve, how he created the universes, how he planned for our spiritual ascension, and much more. You can find in this book exactly what will happen after this physical body dies. There is more information in this book than most people will be able to assimilate in this brief life on earth, but I have found it invaluable to my faith and spiritual growth. Perhaps you will find it useful as well.

It makes since that what only lasted moments felt like 3 hrs. Since God exsits outside of space and time the experience could have lasted a lot longer for him than the time that actually passed in our reality. The bible does illustrate this by telling us a thousands years to us is but one day to God. I am curious though if there were any words being exchanged between the two? You said he understood why things were the way they were and was in agreement...any idea what that means? Is the terminology you are using "the being" your way of refering to God because you do not believe in God or was this his terminology? Is it because you/he is assuming it was God, but not sure? Don't mean to poke and prod, just very interesting to me the experience and it seems that there may have been more to it than was described here, maybe even something important that might have been missed. It seems to me like he has taken away from the experience the jist of its purpose, which was to recognize that God does exist and to maybe rethink his postion on "the big Guy." You say he is a Christian now and I think that is wonderful. I find these experiences extremely interesting and try to get out of them as much information as possible, like I said earlier, in hopes to understand and fully grasp its meaning and purpose. A friend of mine who is like a brother to me has told me about these lucid dreams he has been having as of late. I haven't gotten anything in detail from him because he tells me they were very disturbing and has tried to block them out. He has had dreams like this before, not as disturbing, but troubling and the dreams he describes he feels have been from God because of their nature and what happens in the dream. From what he has told me regarding the details I think the dreams were more symbolic and not literal, but foreshadowing what is to come for us in the times ahead. I told him that even though the dreams are disturbing he may want to write them down because it is possible God is trying to tell him or show him something that he may be missing.

Now that I have rambled enough, the point being is that he may want to write down his account in as much detail as possible to make sure he is getting the full purpose of his experience.

To answer your original question, as a Christian I absolutely believe that there is Life/Awareness after death. As a Christian it is one of the main teachings of the bible, that this life is merely one of the stages in our existence.

I do believe there is life after death. Our bodies give out but our soul and spirits go on. There are hundreds of thousands of stories like your friends. He should consider sharing it with more people...it is a great testimony.

No one knows for sure what happens after you die, but I believe that there is something magnificent afterwards. I don't know what it is, but it'll be great. And I'm assuming your friend is now religious? I'm glad that he had that experience. It happened to him for a reason.
