The final conflict will not be confined to Israel. It will be a world wide conflict involving every living person. Israel as a nation has rejected the Messiah, and had Him put to death. Because of this rejection of present truth, the nation of Israel could no longer be relied upon to be the light bearers for the world. A new nation was called out (Matthew 21:43)
Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
This new nation, made up of Jews and Gentiles would be those who followed the teachings of Christ. They would be called Spiritual Israel, and would be heirs according to the OT promises. In Christ, there is no Jew or Greek. Christ has made of both one man, with Christ as the head.
Thus, the 144,000 spoken of in Revelation are not physical Jews, but spiritual Jews, Christians from every tribe and nation. Peter called the church a royal priesthood (the same title given to OT Israel in Exodus 19) James, writing to the church, called them the 12 tribes scattered abroad. 10 of the the original 12 tribes were dispersed during the reign of Assyria 800 years BC. John could not be talking about the literal 12 tribes of Israel because 10 of the 12 no longer exist. Spiritual battle is seen in Revelation, and the 144,000 are Spiritual Israel equipped for spiritual battle against the forces of Satan.

It's a symbolic number.
12 X 12 X 1000 = 144,000
It is symbolic of all of the redeemed throughout all the ages...
12 Tribes of Israel X 12 Apostles = 144
1000 symbolizes completion on a human level or all.
For example, "God own's the cattle on a thousand hills" literally means He owns all the cattle on all the hills and there far more than 1000 hills. So...
144 X 1000 = 144,000
144,000 = All the redeemed throughout all the ages, both Jewish believers and Gentile believers together compose the Church.
See Gal 3:26-29:
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

God's chosen people which are the Jews. These 144,000 are in addition to those who have become born again throught their accepting Jesus as their Savior. That 144,000 is not the total number of people who are going to heaven, but the amount of Jews that God is also taking as well.

They are 12,000 each of the original tribes of Israel with the exception of Dan and Epharim being substituted for with Joseph and Benjamin's descendants. Their task is to preach the true Gospel of Jesus that they will become miraculously fully aware of while being hunted by the Antichrist during the Tribulation period. They are not going to be the only believers from that period who are saved. If they were, there'd be no need for God to give them their ministry in the first place.

the 144,000 virgin males from Israel?
I would not be overly dogmatic about how to take it
interesting how some people say the number if literal
the virgin part the male part the tribes part are not?
I think if the last three are figurative the number might be
by the way the list of tribes is missing Dan

I tend to think that writer was in a small village and He thought that was a enormous number. It is ludicrous.144,000 is so
low Heaven would be very empty.

Even if it is only the Israeli's, that still leaves a lot out. But, I'm sure someone has come up with a flimsy excuse in order to include more.
