I've been really worried these past three days because my budgie named "Bluebell" has been an escape artist. She has found ways to get out of her cage withouth me noticing.
The problem is she is not tame and she is determined to come out every day and land on top of my cockatiels cage. lol
What is the best, easiest and safest method(s) to put her back in her cage after she has had a fly around the living room?
Thanks....

She is getting out through the the seed feeder gaps. The cage has two square holes one for water and other for food. You put the feeder in and then put a securtiy flap over the top. The trouble is she completley knocked them out and the security flaps broke.
As for now my dad has covered them but I will have to get new ones eventually.

Iused to have a cockateil who did this I would leave her hours and sometimes she would go back on her own accord (leave door open) otherwise the aid of a tea towel (nothing too heavy) over her when least expected then i was able to pick her up and place her back safely and calmly. How is it getting out?????? check the door and the bar width etc
Good luck

This works every time for me. Birds can't see very well in the dark so what you do is wait until night time and turn off the lights. Then get a towel and drape it over the bird. That's really it. Birds can be very stubborn, so don't expect her to go back into her cage any time soon.

Turn all the lights off and leave the cage open and point a torch on the door, it should go to the light and when it does, shut the door quick:D
Then go out and buy a better cage.

Had the exact same problem. Our budgie, Tweety, is somewhat of a sneaky little thing himself. When we got tired of finding him on the ceiling fan every morning, my mom and I decicded to try two different things. You know those little bread ties you get when you by trash bags. We decided to twist them around the top of the door as so the door wouldn't slide. Now that worked for a while. But see when I would go to school and my mom would go to work, we always opened the little food doors to change his food and water. But with the ties you had to untwist them and stuff. So them after all that blah, blah, blah, we decided to use clothes pins. The same way just removable when needed. So you can use the little twist or clothes pins. Which ever is better for you and Bluebell.
Now for the part about getting her back in her cage. A tame budgie will land on you. But when she doesn't trust you its a little more difficult. To catch her you just need to be gentle. Don't grab her or anything. Just slowly go up to her and very slowly take both your hand and wrap them around her body. Don't squeeze her though. And don't wrap them around her head. This may take a while but it is very safe. But if she is not tame, I suggest taking a little time out of your day to sit with her. I'm not saying you have to pet her and try to get her to do tricks. But the best way I've gotten my pet birds to allow me to pet them and not get frightend is to just sit in the same room a little everyday. They will start to trust you once they know that you aren't trying to hurt them.
Okay hope I helped. D-O-P-F

the best way to cath your bird is to do so witha towel...slowly approach teh bird and then place towel over it...it helps if the lighst in teh room are turned off or dimmed so taht the bird isnt able to see u (budgies dont see well in te dark) this will also help keep teh bird calm

no point in putting her back if the cage isn't secure. You need to buy a proper cage, then at night, see where she lands, turn out the lights and gently pick her up with a teatowel over her.
