I personally believe most media does a huge injustice to the American people as a whole either by not portraying the news as it is or tweeking the truth a little to favor one side or the other. An example right now would be Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. O.k. so it's not World News, however what do you think most of America feels about Kevin? Has Britney told anyone anything herself? Of course not media does it by rumors, speculation, etc. Fox News is a Republican station that owns many many stations. you wtch their news and it is totally biased on the Republican side of course. You see lots of things that would justify us being in a war right now. For most people that rely on the news to give them "the truth" about the world and what they should think it's really sad cause they are relying on people that have everything to gain by you viewing things the same way that they do.

This is true if you maintain a very narrow media window. It is interesting to compare news stories from different countries. Anyone who watched Arab news channels a couple of months ago got to see the Iraqi prime minister in Iran having a very cozy session with the Iranian prime minister.

This was while the Bush administration was still talking about Iran being the source of weapons and foreign fighters coming into Iraq.

Just recently this has started to leak out a bit in the US media.

The day before Rumsfeld's so-called resignation the lead news story on most of the worlds media outlets was that charges had been filed against Rumsfeld and several other bush advisers in German courts for war crimes. To my knowledge this has yet to be mentioned in the US media.

Its a lot like the old mushroom joke about being kept in the dark and fed nothing but bull sh--.

Love and blessings Don

I would say so. A lot of our opinions, feelings, and actions are directly influenced by what we see. Hollywood, for example, glorifies sex, violence, and drug useage, and in retrospect, we see teenagers as young as 12 using needles. As far as sex, there's been reports of gangbangs, with girls under the age of 10. And there's shows on Showtime, that glorify drug use, homosexuality, and other perversions of normal life.
Of course, most liberals don't like to be told they're doing something wrong, so they just do what feels right, and then go about their freewheeling lives.
Needless to say, about the best thing that could happen to the earth, is a solar flare...it would knock out the TVs, Radios, and most electronics for months, if it was strong enough. People would have to talk to each other again, and couldn't get hooked on the boob tube.

Yes, I think the media has gotten into people's heads and changing there own opinion. It's also Peer Pressure. But also, I think different religions give themselves bad names; Even Christians! Because they go to church, act holy and then go out into the world getting high on drugs, drinking all the time, and being a hypocrite.

Yes, to a great extent. Although I cannot identify or validate the source, I have heard that only 15% of American adults are capable of critical thinking. While loath to use this data; in this context, I think that it does suggest that a majority of people t do lean on the media to formulate their ideas and world perspective.

Yes.

As a Christian, I get my news from sources that I trust. Needless to say, it isn't ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, or FOX.

As a Journalist, I know how to find and report news. I am never too busy to give in and let others with an agenda lead me around by the nose.

I am diligent about what I believe. I do not blindly accept what anybody says. I want to honor God through Truth and Honesty.

No I think the internet plays a big role. The media hasn't caused me to develop a pathological hatred of Christians-only reading their perverse opinions on various discussion forums has done that.

today its more isolating, children more often than before watch by themselves...

for allot of people this causes the media influence to rise above even family influence. I actual pay my daughter 10 bucks a week not to watch TV with a 1.50 deductable for each day and she read allot more books now and I thnk much happier

It has always been that way.

The Pharisees provoked the crowds to shout Give us Barabbus! instead of Jesus in the first century.

Advertising gets disproportionately more money than stockholders because they know how to manipulate the masses.

How the newscasters slant an issue usually sets the tone for the mindless majority.

Those who aren't smart enough to read everything have their opinion formed by the media. I like checking out what other countries say.
