My kids love the old fashioned oatmeal, when I chop up an apple and put it in the water first to cook, then add the oats... add lots of cinnamon and a little sugar.

Oh, I love the old-fashioned oats, with a little sugar and cinnamon, and a big splash of milk. Nice and chewy! Not like the baby food you get when you cook up quick oats.

However, quick oats are better in cookies, and you can grind them up to make oat bread -- my friend gave me a wonderful recipe.

(-: I've seen a serving suggestion of oats with an umeboshi pickled plum in the middle. I suppose that's OK, but I haven't lived in Japan long enough to want a bowl of that in the morning!

Maybe after 20 more years.

I like mine with maple syrup. If I'm out, I also use brown sugar. No preference whether old fashioned or quick cooking. I like both.
