It's the fear of not remembering your loved ones. Remembering your life. If you have a child look at them and imagine if you can not being able to remember them it would break your heart. Yes living life and learning is more important but death is still on the back of the mind. Can't help it sorry.

Jesus claimed to be God. He said that the only way to heaven was through Him. He also said that to reject Him means eternal damnation and torment.
If Jesus is who He claimed to be (and history shows he rose from the dead, giving some credibility to His claim), then I'd say our life on earth is temporary, but after life is eternal, making it of utmost importance.
However, if Jesus was not who He claimed to be, and all we are is a product of chance, and when we die it's all over, then you are correct, we should live for today.
For me, the risk of the 2nd option is too great, and the evidence for the 1st option is overwhelming, if one will simply look for it.

Yes we should have a healthy interest about our eternal destiny and live life as a reflection of that destiny but not to the point of obsession, we have to get it right here and now, on a daily basis to fully live as Christ taught us but not to the point of living with our heads in the clouds.
some people though are too Heavenly bound to be of any Earthly use!

There is something in every human being that tells of another life to come and this life is ushered in by death hence the reason we worry so much about that. There is an eternity after death and this life is just but a shadow of the real life to come.

That is their focus, apparently not yours presently. As I see it, neither 'side' is wrong currently.
May you receive a pleasant surprise today, Glory to God.
Peace Be With You.

Spirituality is about overcoming that fear, so we can
live a more joyful life. But it won't be accomplished
by talking and analyzing. It must be experienced
for onesself!
