looks like nobody is awsering your question, i guess i will have to help.
the trick is neither is better. its just a matter of opinion. there are benifets to both and disadvanteges
1. lcd cannot produce true black colors
2 lcd is more expensive per square inch
1 plasma consumes more energy
2 plasma can get burn in from images that sit on screen for 4+ hours
both plasma and lcd has a life span of 60,000 hours unless you purches a cheap tv aka maxtent, vizo etc...
here are the advantages
1, plasma has busting out colors with true black
2, plasma is cheaper for up to 720p resolution
1 lcd can have a image for long periods of time
2 lcd is cheaper for 1080p resolution
just go to best buy or circut city and make sure the sales person can tell you the following
resolution ( 1080p is what you want )
contrast ratio ( at least 4000:1 )
built in atsc, ntsc, qam turner ( if it dosent have it dont buy it )
besides that let you eye guide you

I'm going to suggest another option: a front projector.
The benefits of a front projector mainly come down to:
- much larger picture (typically 100" or even larger) for the only "true" (i.e. immersive) home theatre experience
- portability / small size
- screens can be retracted and projectors enclosed in an equipment cabinet when not in use (high WAF (wife acceptance factor))
- easier maintenance (you can easily bring it in for service rather than have to have the service come to you)
- about equivalent in price to moderate size (35-45") flatscreens cheaper once you start comparing to flatscreens bigger than about 46"-50".
Naturally, disadvantages exist too, including:
- picture quality is best in a dim / dark room (this is also true for flat panels, but somewhat more important for (most) projectors)
- you need space for a big screen (and the crowd of friends who will find an excuse to drop over with popcorn at any excuse)
- lamps slowly dim and must be replaced (typical lifetime is 2000-3000 hrs, or 2-4 years @ 2-3 hrs/day)) and they are expensive (ca $4-500).
But overall, a front projector will beat a plasma or LCD flatpanel for wow factor and viewing pleasure (particulalry for watching with others).
See the link for some references. The first two are to pictures of a 100" diagonal image from HDTV ("The Unit") on a painted screen ($50 in paint) in my home theatre. The last two are to 2 projector review sites. The first has more images in the reviews, but the second has lots of other useful information.
This is a great time to consider a projector. Prices have come down markedly -- and performance increased at the same time -- over the last year or so. Excellent HD projectors (1280x720p) are available in the $1500 range, and 1920x1080p have recently begun arriving for under $5000.
You may have your mind made up to go with a flat screen, in which case go for it. (personally I'd go for plasma flatscreen if I only intended to have one TV or wanted a screen no bigger than 40-50"). But if you are still considering options at least do a little reading about projectors.
Good Luck.

I am going to agree with what the one post said that really, neither is all that great. If you really want the best picture possible, stick with a tube set. Yes, they are heavy and bulky, but isn't it worth that $20 delivery and set up fee that you would pay so you DON'T have to break your back. The Sony Wegas are very nice tube sets. You can get a 36" HD flat screen tube for about $800 now.
