The Church at Antioch was the first to use the term, according to the Bible:
Acts 11:26-28 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people.
**And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch.**
Then one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar.

The disciples were first called "Christians" at Antioch. At that time it was considered a derogatory term. Believers, I think, had been known as people of the Way, people of the Word, etc. I guess the term "Christians" seemed appropriate for they were followers of the Christ.
Don't know any Biblical reference where anyone referred to themselves as "Christian". We'll let you use a Concordance, find out, and let the rest of us know.

The name christian was actually only used in the bible 3 times. It was a derogatory term for Jesus disciples. It literally means "little Christs".

This question is obsolete because Christian is not a religion but a belief, a way of thinking, living, being.
It means that they believe in Christ, heed his teachings and keep his commandments the best that they can.
Back then they were not called "Christian", but disciples of Christ, Followers, God's chosen people, etc.

john -- the author of the last books of the bible. nobody is quite sure who he is -- he is often considered the apostle of jesus named john but his writing would suggest he was a john from 200 yrs later. the style and language is nothing like the gospel of john.

For those who say "Chistian" was a derogatory statement, I say, where did you get your information? God was the one who named Jesus' followers Christians. At Acts 11:26, it says they were called that "by divine providence."

Please be aware of something. Love focuses on giving, pride focuses on getting. Yes, givers will receive, and they should be grateful for it. Therefore one may find it hard to find in scriptures what the above question focuses on.
May you receive a pleasant surprise today, Glory to God.
Peace Be With You.
