My apartment was painted yesterday and as I expected, there is a smell but this smell seems a bit more harsh then regular paint, its so strong that it burns my eyes even with all the windows opened. Should I be worried about this? Could this paint be toxic? Also, I have had a headache since last night which may or may not be due to the paint fumes, is this cause for concern? I did not do the painting myself and the painters took the cans with them so I can't look on the label.

Maybe you are alergic to something in the paint. I'd complain to whomever did the painting and ask them what they used. Then contact the maker and ask if it should smell that way or if anyone else has complained to them about the smell.

There are fast drying paints that the smell doesn't linger. I don't know whether they chose the wrong paint, the wrong kind for the situation (like maybe it was an outdoor paint but used indoors), maybe they used cheap paint, or if the problem is you have an alergy.

I suggest you leave there until the paint has dried. I'm thinking that another paint (non-fragrance paint) could be put on top of that last one to seal in the one that smells if you're looking for a last resort way to solve it.

In the olden days.. yes, paint was toxic because it contained an inordinate amount of lead but today's paint.. NO.. HOWEVER.. my going into a newly painted room has no affect on me even though I can smell the paint fumes. other individuals, are affected in different ways.. watery eyes, etc and for those, I always recommend that they stay out of the room(newly painted room) for a day.... giving the room ample time to dry.

It sounds like they might o used oil based paint and yeah itis not good for you when it is drying. It takes around 24 hrs. to dry to where it does'nt smell so bad. Ask the management what type of paint they used. You will be ok .

do you have all your windows open? If not you should have them open till the smell goes away..this is typical of all paints they do have a strong smell and if you dont ventilate the room accordingly the smell will linger
