I guess it would depend on the person, maybe this is her way of speaking but generally no I would say that gentleman friend is not the same as boyfriend. Boyfriend denotes a romantic relationship whereas gentleman friend would just mean a platonic friend who happens to be a male. The only way to be sure is the ask her though! Tell her you'd like her to meet someone & wanted to make sure she's not seeing anyone.
Sounds like a very old-fashioned expression though! I don't know when I've heard someone use the term "gentleman"!

The term "gentleman friend" is one of several that originated in the Nineteenth Century to refer to a fellow who might call upon a lady in anticipation (on both their parts) of more than just polite conversation. Sometimes he was referred to as a "gentleman caller" because when a fellow came to visit, he was said to be "a caller". This predated the telephone, so "calling" did not mean then what it means now. And yes, she's probably in a developing relationship with this man, so I wouldn't push the idea of hooking her up.

That may depend on the person and their use of the terminology....but my guess is that a 'gentleman friend' is in fact a male caller and/or boyfriend. In any event, it indicates some type of relationship that is not just a male friend (platonic). She's probably involved with him....and therefore you may want to wait before introducing her to your brother. She may also want you to know that she's not just lonely and waiting for someone to come along so you don't pity her. Have you asked her if she'd like to meet someone else...or if this is exclusive?

She may have been 'picking' on you and told you a gentleman friend to get you curious.....
typically means a guy friend...i say that too, but like I said, its a guy friend.
That ones a hard one.
Depends on the person...best way to find out is to ask her straight up. good luck!
