is there a good dvd burner which will burn all formats onto a recordable disc so i can play it on a dvd player?

Any DVD burning software will do that. Nero is probably the most common today. (Check to see if you might have it included in the software that came with the DVD burner or the PC).

Most DVD players can only play files that are in vob format. Nero will take an AVI (or mpg or wmv, etc) and as part of the burning process will convert it to the proper vob format.

You can burn AVI's very easily with Nero :)
You can also burn almost all formats with the software.

you need X-OOM internet movies, it will convert the file and burn it to disk so it can be read by most dvd players.
