The Quran says to draw your veil over your bosom and PROTECT YOUR MODESTY.
Men have their own restrictions in Islam.
They can not wear silk or gold.
They are not to wear anything that is too tight.
They are not to show parts of themselves that will entice women i.e. chest hair.
All Muslim scholars agree that a Muslim man must always cover the part of his body which is described as "awrah". This term denotes "what is unbecoming, shameful or indecent to reveal." A substantial body of Muslim scholars are of the view that a man's awrah extends from the waistline down to the knees, with the knees not included. However, other scholars are of the view that a man's awrah is limited to his genitals and back passage. This is perhaps the more accurate view, supported by the stronger evidence. Any type of dress which covers the awrah proper and is not seen as something that could lead to indecent behavior and is not an imitation of clothing that is distinctive of non-believers is permissible to wear. Thus there is no harm in wearing the clothes you have described. Some rigid people claim at times that wearing a shirt and tie imitates non-believers. This is not true because such clothes are the normal dress for large communities in the Muslim world. Muslims must also guard against wearing anything that is considered a mark of pride or arrogance. Whatever conveys an air of arrogance is forbidden to wear.
But yes women are able to control their sexual desires easier then men do. How many times have you heard of a woman raping a man, little to none. But how many times do you hear of a man raping a woman, daily.

You are making it sound like the only reason we wear one is to not entice men. That is not true, although even if it was what is wrong with not wanting to be seen as a piece of meat? If you dont want everyone looking at you for how beautiful you are what is wrong with that? Women wear it for religious purposes. Because we believe that God loves modesty. It goes on both sides, men are modest too. A very small percentage of Muslim women wear the veil, most wear a head scarf- and that is not exclusive to Muslim women, some sects of Christianity offer the headscarf for pious women as well.

Ray thanks, I was wondering this also. So there seems to be a lot about sexual seduction and lack of control. Well, first of all, God created us all in his image. Shouldn't we revel in this beauty? And take it from me, many men are beautiful. They have great hair and bodies and we women do notice. Non-Muslims, for the most part, don't seem to have much problem controlling their desires when they see women. You would think all this covering up would create so much mystique that men would be more inclined to check out what's under those burkas. This part is for Peaceful. You stated that Muslims protect women. Why then do you take female prisoners of war and distribute them in the population as prostitues rather than incarcerate them. I read this in a pamphlet put out by Muslims which praised this practise as being humane. When did forcing women to be prostitutes become humane? I would much rather be locked up without human contact than be degraded in this awful way. So how about rethinking this practise?

Men do have to cover up to a certain extent. The must cover from their knees to their bellybutton at least. The women are taught from a young age to "lower their gaze" so they do not look at the Muslim men. The first look is an accident, the second look is not. They should have a certain degree of control like most people.

Muslim women don't have to wear the veil, they just have to cover their hair and body (ie scarf and abiya), the veil is a personal choice. Women have different bodies to men, we have breasts and a figure, men don't. Women's hair makes them beautiful and attractive towards the opposite sex. Men don't have this issue. How is this sexist, males and females are different in their appearance and other stuff, it's like saying how its sexist that women have to wear a bra and men don't.

And who told you that men do not have to wear a "veil"??
In fact, ALLAH ordered men before woman to wear something like a "veil". However, due to biological reasons, the male sexual stimulating body organs are different and more limited than those in women.
Men should cover the pubic region (from abdomen to knees) this part is what should be covered.

Islam has given a lot of restrictions to the women as this was needed when the religion was founded. It was more of a male dominated religion. But wearing a veil, I personally feel is a liberty given to women to get exited without being expressive. Its the poor men who are penalised in preventing the freedom to birdwatch.
Anyway, you have a point there!!1

yes it is one of the reasons, Muslim women wear hijab—which is more than just a head cover—because God ordered them to do so in two places in the Qur’an, and because Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) also ordered it. The Qur’an says in Surah 24, verses 30 - 31 what means:
*{Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only that which is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment save to their own husbands or fathers or husbands fathers, or their sons or their husbands' sons, or their brothers or their brothers' sons or sisters sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack vigor, or children who know naught of women's nakedness. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn unto Allah together, O believers, in order that ye may succeed.}*
These verses tell us that our Islamic dress is not just a matter of covering the head alone, but also of covering the bosom, which is attractive to men, and of lowering the gaze and walking in a way that does not attract attention. Note that the order to lower the gaze was addressed first to men…
You can also read the other verse about the same point, which is verse number 59 in Surah 33. It may be translated:
*{O Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them [when they go abroad]. That will be better, that so they may be recognized and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.}*
It is true that men don’t have to cover their heads, but there is a dress code for them, as well, although it is not so widely publicized as the women’s dress code. Men must at least be covered from the navel to the knees with loose fitting clothing. The rules for men are different because women are less likely to ogle men than the other way around.
peace.

Other than the whole sexist issue here the only logical argument I can think of is that they believe men are weaker than women and will give into their desires more easily than women!
