You are not alone. Fear of heights is very common. I freak when I am in one of those elevators inside a hotel that has glass walls to view the atrium. The cure for some of us is acclimation. The more we are exposed to heights and realize that nothing bad happened, the better we get used to heights. Of course this is for mild cases. There used to be bridge in Rhode Island that was very steep and high. The toll collectors were familar with people that could not drive over the bridge. They had extra staff on hand to drive the person's car over the bridge while they calmed the person to sit in the passenger seat.

You can ignore it or try to cure it. Beware of the' face your fear' tactic. Bring a friend along, otherwise, if you find yourself too high and end up frozen, you'll be stuck until someone notices you, not a great deal of fun.
You can try hypnosis. Do make sure the person you go to is legitimate. You will likely need to renew your treatment every two weeks or so. Depending on how bad your fear is you may be able to ease yourself into getting over it.
Meditating is another route you can take, it may be able to bring you to grips with why you have the fear and a way to prevent it from taking over. A lot of people use meditating to control anger, they take a few deep breaths or envision a flower bud opening, water flowing over rocks, you get the point. Basically it takes your mind off of getting angry, you can use the same tactic to lessen your fear. It takes practice, there are different types to use, find one that works for you. The envisioning the white light never got me anywhere, mantras work for me, just try different ones.
Lots of info on hypnosis and meditating in books, internet, just be careful that the sources are legitimate.

I feel your pain. I face heights on a daily basis. I focus on the task that I am working on, rather than the elevation I'm working at. The odd thing with me, is that I bungee jump. I am a adrenaline junkie.
WOO-HOO! What a rush!

one way you can go is to just avoid your fear. try to avoid high places, and dont climb anywhere you wouldnt be comfortable.
the other way to go is to face your fear and go somewhere high. you might realize that its just heights, and there is nothing to be afraid of, or you might realize that you really are scared, in which case go with the above option.

Me too. I just avoid tall buildings and carnival rides. Its pretty easy to do. Airplanes are entirely different, you can feel like your just in a room and its not the same to me. If your really bad, talk to your doctor about meds that can relax your anxiety.

Either go find help to cure your fear or just don't climb ladders or go on the roof of a ridiculously tall building.
