to raven dismukes.
Both liberals and conservatives have become quite adept at mixing religion and politics in our current society. One also continues to observe an ongoing practice of civil religion demonstrated by presidents and office-seekers on both the left and right. Generally, the leftist merger of religion and politics has received greater social acceptability because it has been cloaked in such rights' causes as civil rights, women's rights, or economic rights (the social distribution of wealth). The advocating of these rights issues have provided an appearance of transcending religion, keeping the left relatively free from criticism of any church and state overlap.
Christian Conservatives, however, have found it more difficult to reasonably combine faith and politics because they have more overtly recognized that their political positions are grounded on faith assumptions. This has resulted in numerous attacks by both non-Christians and Christians alike against the conserva

conservative attempt to merge religion and politics. Three arguments have been used most frequently against the conservative mixture of religion and politics. In what follows each of these arguments is stated and then refuted.
The first argument is that politics is too worldly. The essence of the argument is that politics is part of this world's system, and Christ clearly taught His followers to "love not the world," and to flee from worldly activities. There is a danger of becoming caught up in the web of politics and the world's system, resulting in ungodliness. Therefore, if one is to remain pure and unstained by the evil of the world, then he must remain segregated from politics and political activity.

If you're talking about politics, then where have you been the last 150 years? Christians haven't had their beliefs control government since the late 1800's. Secular bankers and people with evil agendas have been in control since the industrialization movement.
Sure, there have been a select few that stood out, but not very many.
We're in the middle of a governmental nightmare because of greed for money and power. Two things that Christianity speaks against.
Wake up and smell the coffee. It is because of the lack of Christianity that criminals are the victims, teen pregnancy and divorce are at all time highs, idiotic psychiatry is the source of our "experts", drugs and gangs rule the streets and the deception of political correctness seems to govern our societies.
If Christians were in control, there would be a much more stable government and a safer society.
Thanks for blaming us for everything we oppose. Of all the misdirected blame, this one has to take the cake. Go back to sleep.
And I see according to Jerse, that Christians aren't allowed to even voice their opinions. Hmmm, that was the same attitude towards slaves when they weren't considered as free people. Here's a clue Jerse... When you refuse to listen to someone else's opinion, that is what's called "close minded" and "arrogant". But, I'm sure you're one of those "intellectual types" that consider the Christians close minded.
I bet you're still confused on this though.
Man and his infinite wisdom never ceases to amaze me. You people really confirm the bible's prophecies concerning the last days. What's scary is that you don't realize how much you prove the Word of God is true.
Wow raven, I'm absolutely amazed that you got a thumbs down when all you did was ask for elaboration and quote the first amendment. The individual that gave you the thumbs down is obviously only capable of seeing his or her point of view. But I'm sure they don't even realize what their point of view is.
We are definately living in a society of people who do not search for truth but only look to support their opinion. Even if that means never finding truth. Scary indeed.
It makes 2 Pet 3:3,4 very real.

there's no prayer in colleges. the ten Commandments were removed from courthouses for the time of the rustic. Abortion is criminal, and, if the present administration has its way, will quickly be funded partly through the tax funds of Christians. wager we are no longer as sturdy at dictatorships as you want to provide us credit.

I AM...I'm also tired of the more uneducated ones claiming America was founded on "Christian Values" or as a "Christian nation". Perhaps they should do a quick Google search on the founding fathers and see just exactly what they had to say about the religion - especially Jefferson and Franklin.

The First Ammendment is Freedom of Speech. You have that same freedom. Christians have it as well. I am curious as to what Christians speaking on behalf of America you are referring to. Not every one who professes to be a Christian is necessarily a Christian, or they may not be representing the thoughts of other Christians. That is why I would like to hear you elaborate a little more on your question. In other words, what Christians are speaking on behalf of America? Also, what is your definition of a Christian? These points are important to the question you have brought up. A better, factual and less opinionated answer can be given with a little more background from you about this.
Thanks!
O.K. I Got your e-mail, thanks for getting back to me.
While you did elaborate as I had asked you to, I still do not think you responded directly to what I was wanting to know. You started out intending to, but then threw in strong opinions of your beliefs. The 1st ammendment allows you to speak out just like you have done here. When you are passionate about a subject, it is understandable to lose focus of just the simple things I was inquiring about.
1. Do you know what the First Ammendment to the Constitution is?
2. I wanted to know what Christians speaking on behalf of America were you referring to, you said . . . the average Christian . . . I didn't need an opinionated description of a Christian, I know what your personal opinion is by the nature of your question in the first place. If you have an opinion of "Christians speaking on behalf of America" then you must have witnessed many "Christians" speaking on America's behalf. I wanted to know who you are referring to, who is doing the speaking? I wanted you to possibly name a person, organized group of politicians, certain divisions of the media? You know, who? Who is it that is doing all of this speaking on behalf of America that you are referring to as Christians? Name one person at least so I can see what you are talking about first hand.
3. You gave your definition of a Christian as . . ." selfish thinking, and thinking of what is right for the rest of us and at the same token break the rules right and left." That is not any where near the true definition of a Christian. You are describing more along the lines of a hypocrite. I wouldn't want a hypocrite speaking on behalf of America either. A true Christian is nothing like what you are implying him/her to be. Christians, just like every one else, make many mistakes. But it is the hypocrite that acts "holier than thou" and tries to appear to be better than everyone else.
It just seems to me that the question itself that you have raised lacks merit. I know you won't like that statement and I am sorry about that. However, you can't just throw accusations as serious as these around without backing them up with actual current facts. You can create a scapegoat very easily when you don't have to prove your point about it. Every one is looking for some one to blame for something in this country.

Me. I am sick and tired of hearing their drivel in the media and worrying about whether we are going to become a religious state like Iran. Ok, I don't think it will come to that, but if the Xians have their way...bye bye freedom.
