Because some brands of Islam seeks to impose its views on the world by force. As to comparing religions, not really sure where you get that from; I have not heard many people doing such a thing.

The whole world is not against muslims.
Especially muslims are not against muslims (except sunnites against shiites, and arabs against persian people and kabyles, etc.).
Besides most of asian countries do not care a thing about muslims, and asian countries hold more than 50% of the population.
Mmmh. That may be false, indeed India is very wary of muslims because of it was for quite a long time under the domination of muslims and it has pakistan on its borders and a huge discriminated against muslim minority. So that leaves only China not caring a thing, unless may be a bit about the ouighours. But mostly China dislikes the tibetan buddists.

So the real questions is why are western countries and especially the USA obsessed with islam ?

Probably because there's lots of oil in muslim regions, lot's of US soldiers in muslim region, and Israel is surrounded by muslim countries.
The main reason I think is that monotheist religions have fought against one another for about 1200 years now and that's a long time. It's more difficult to find reasons to fight asian buddist and taoist people whith whom the western people have very little to relate with, than the muslim people whith whom we share so much (one god, a common book, a long history ...).

I'm not sure most people compare their religion to islam. There's much comparison between christianism and buddism too.

As far as minding ones own business what does it mean ?
It's natural to be curious about those who are a bit the same and yet different.
Besides it's self evident that since muslim fanatics have been traced at the roots of recent major terrorism acts against western countries, westerners feel compelled to wonder what is in this religion and if this religion could be the cause of the hate against them. After all it would be cool if all the blame could be traced back to the religion of the others, and not on the policies of governments from the west and from the muslim countries.

The whole world isn't against muslims - Islam is the fastest grwoing religion in the west - so that is a pretty good indication that the man on the street really isnt that against muslims. The western media however is - because it is their job to keep the wars going and to do that they are demonising muslims to portray them as the enemy - but they're not... educate yourself and read more (and by the way, the truth IS out there - just not in the mainstream media, that is just lies)

hmmm ... the whole world is not against Muslims and the comparison s just started after the 9-11 at least here in the US. when I was under 40 except for studying the Crusades we never heard of Muslims.

And personally I could care less about Muslioms. I wish THEY would mind THEIR own business!

People here are saying the whole world are not against muslims-- and I agree-- but sometimes it really does feel that way. Look at the amount of posts on here against muslims as people, or against their religious beliefs or against their prophet (pbuh) and you can see it for yourself.

the west always need an "enemy" or "other", it used to be communists that we all had to be scared of, and mock the way of life of people in communist countries.
For whatever reason, the powers that be have decided they want us to feel the same way about Islam, as the way we were encouraged to about communism. It's about social manipulation, I don't think you'll find many people who actually think for themselves who hate Muslims.-certainly we are being encouraged (more, or less subtly) to hate Islam by most of the mass media, it's very sad.

Well my friend it is maby because in your religion you learn that if you kill and die for your god and religion you will go to heaven and eat rice next to Alah... When the christians learn that if they get punched on the cheek they should turn their other cheek for the next one.... That's maby why........ But I don't agree in categorising people. Only the fanatics should be called bad people... and not to mention that Muslims have set on fire so many nations because they were not faithfull to Alah, so please give us all a big break from your existence....

Unfortunately, people have a need to group and form so called communities that almost intentionally alienates others who are not part of that community
