According to a lot of research I've read, vacations are extremely important for mental health and productivity at work. It provides a way to "recharge your batteries." Ironically, Americans, who seem to prize travel, have the least amount of vacation of any country in the industrialized world.

In Some Respects, Sure Holidays Are Over Rated And I Guess You Could Do Something Else With The Money. For Me Though My Last Two Holidays Were The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me And Returning To England Afterwards, About The Worst. Hold On I'm Not Dissing England, Don't Get Me Wrong But My Whole Future Is In Australia So Not Being Able To Sort My Stay Out In The Time I Had Sucked Big Time.
Holidays Are Good Even If It's Just To Recharge Your Batteries Or For A Change To The Every Day Things. Have A Gooday.

depends - if you need money then you could take a couple of week's vacation and register with a temp agency and work in that two weeks, thus increasing your money. This is perfectly legal and not in breach of any employment contract (unless you are temping for a competitor of your employer). However, there's a lot to be said that "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy"; - to have a break from your normal routine will stimulate your brain and refresh you enormously and you will return to work feeling much livelier than before. There's also plenty of very cheap deals to be had which won't break the bank and make you feel like you're wasting money.

Its not important at all.

We used to go away every year, haven't been on a holiday for about 5 years now and not misssing it at all.

I think most people go on holiday to "get away" from either thier environment or thier work. The best solution is to move somewhere you like, get a job you like, and then it'll be a holiday everyday.

I believe it is just waste of money. Money can be better spent towards your requirement i.e doing up house, pay towards your mortgage, save it for childrens educaton. If you have borrowed money for holiday then you worrried about paying up. you can make hoiday in you house with your famiy. If you really want holiday then spend money to gain knowledge in that country ( i.e signtseeing, culture etc) Don't seat at seaside & have a drink. If you got that much time & money use that for helping other's people's life.

Yes, I believe it is important to go away. If you just go to Magaluf every year, get pissed and sunburnt then perhaps not. But experiencing new cultures, new sights, sounds, and smells is all about experiencing LIFE. Sure, go to the usual tourist sights - but also dive into a country's true culture. Go to third world countries and arrange a tour by local people (not by a big name travel firm, but a tour run by local people with profits going to local people).

Yes, it is important to get away from the stresses and strains of ordinary life, and from work.

A chance to go somewhere else, and do something different is restful, and helpful to you. You will gain memories that may become priceless.

I have seen things that we don't have where I live, tasted foods that we don't have here, met people whom I'll always remember.

holidays are fine, but I'd much rather spend that £1000 on doing up my house!

Holidays = dead money!!! All you get is memories and then you just end up forgetting!

That would depend upon the individual. I like to kick back at home and clean up some of those projects that I never seem to have time to "get around to". ;-)=
