No, Should decrease the level because its a dumb weapon system to build. A few nucs can do the trick for tactical reason in war. If you downsize the arsenal you can deploy two more divisions of troops, extreme modern training for the troops, housing and welfare. There are enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world 3 times over maybe it would be enough to destroy it just once. If Iran builds a nuclear weapon and fires it at any given country. I am sure there will be no such thing as Northern Iran after retaliation. The Nuclear Weapon is the dumbest and costliest weapon system to build today

The UK has an estimated 250 + nuclear weapons. It is also one of the few powers with an effective delivery system. I think that they are right up to date in that area. I also can not conceive of a situation that the UK would use a nuke without the US being willing to join in the strike.

That is why we need them and yes we should upgrade them. If we get rid of them it leaves us wide open to nuclear attack with no opportunity to retalliate. The fact that they have not been used since the end of World War Two is a testament to their effectiveness. They are there as a defencive deterrent and not as a offensive threat. I hope I'm not around when some lunatic starts throwing them about and we have to shut him up.

Yes. When we've done with Bin Laden, we do not know who the new enemy might be. If they're going to have nukes or get them, we should upgrade ours, just in case.

If the neighbouring tribe have a war club and yours don't, you lose the argument over the water hole - its that simple. Buy a new and bigger club and be ready to use it.

yes we should. The other countries do it secretly and so should we. i do not agree with the war or anything, but korea and china are two deadly nations (the power they have). i would prefer to see a nuclear warhead in england than moral standards!

Hell yes, we haven't used any and we have had them years(we
are probably the only country stable enough to have wmd)cos
it would take a lot for us to use them and they are part of the
reason other countries leave us alone.we could launch an
attack anywhere in the world and as long as this is public
knowledge it makes us safer(one of the sad ironies of the
world we live in).

Yes! if not for the long range possible implications, but for the peace preparing for all-out-war seems to bring. Britain should take whatever measures she sees fit to ensure the safety of its people. Thats that.

wouldn't that be a bit hypocritical if we tryin to stop all the other countries (korea, india, pakistan, iraq...etc) having a nuclear arsenal?

I know they do, and so do we. So if we tryin to make them reduce and us increse isn't that an anti-robin hood?
Personaly I think it's dangerous for anyone to have them but if we have we can hardly blame anyone else for having them. You wouldn't take on a bloke with knives and a glass ashtray with pack of playin cards would you?
