try stale PLAIN popcorn (use an air popper). also use a beading needle they are very thin and flexable.

The staler the popcorn, the better. The fresh stuff will just crack and break when you pierce it with the needle. Use a very sharp needle, it may be a good idea to rub sand paper over the needle tip to make it super sharp! I use fishing line- it doesn't show beneath the popcorn. It may be a bit more difficult to slide the popcorn onto the fishing line but it's transparent on your tree if there are gaps in the popcorn string. Also, don't use microwave popcorn or the type made in a popcorn popper. They have oil/butter which can turn rancid on the tree. Use a hot air popper, adds no oil. I didn't have this type of popper but found one super cheap at Goodwill. Perhaps try a place like that? Have fun! Did you ever string cranberries? They're so pretty on the tree~

Let it become stale. Fresh popped corn breaks to easily. I string mine on waxed dental floss, it seems to hold up better than thread. Good Luck
