I recently went to Chicago and my Hair Straighteners wouldn't work even when plugged thorugh an adapter.I know the US has a different voltage than the UK, but is there any way to make them work? I'm going to LA in January and if they aren't going to work i'll use the space in my case for more shoes!!

The mark 3.1b won't work overseas. If you have the new Mark 4 launched last month then they work anywhere in the world. You can buy them at www.greathairdirect.com

How big are your straighteners that they could be replaced with more shoes??

You could always just buy a cheap one when you get to the US, or do your hair before you leave. There's a way of straightening hair and it lasts for about a week. It's called a blowout. The hair is wash, then small sections are blowdryed using a large round brush and dryer, once you've got your hair dry apply a heat protectant and flatiron it all, the same as when you dried it...in small sections. Or you can get it done at a salon...here in Massachusetts it costs around $60 to have it done, and it take about an hour, so it'd probably take longer if you did it yourself.

I usually have this problem the other way around where my US made electrical items dont work in the UK. I think it all boils down to voltage.

In the US it's 110 and in the UK its 210-220.
Lots of shops sell convert plugs. If you are in the US, try Radio Shack, or even some of the larger computer stores. And if all else fails- Wal-mart sells everything.

If they don't work with an adapter, they aren't gonna work. If you're in the States that often, and really are that paranoid about having straight hair (don't see the attraction myself), I think your best bet is to buy some straighteners out there.

hia.i went to LA last year and had the same problem.the light went on but they didnt heat up.Its basically because they have a much lower wattage than us,so it doesnt matter what adaptor you buy they wont work.its the same if your going to go on holiday to the carribean aswell.you might be better off buying a cheap pair when you get there if you ever go there again.

curiously my pal went to huge apple and in view that the voltage is lots decrease, GHDs do no longer attain a similar temperature. i imagine you ought to take some gas ones with you purely in case.

I often travel to America,as I have family there, and mine have always worked with the adaptor! Could it possibly be the adaptor was faulty-or did you try it with other things too?
