It cannot be done the front wheel drive engine does not have drilled holes in the block for the Rear wheel drive motor mounts. Plus the rearward slant of the GT engine would put the intake manifold on the left hand strut tower. Now the pre 1986 rear wheel drive Celica 22RE engine will fit. But the engine fuelinjection wiring will give you something to do all winter.

01 Celica is a front wheel drive, 95 Supra is a rear wheel drive.
Their setup is not the same.
In California, legally, that is not possible.
To swap the engine, It has to be 01 and above, not below.
Swapping a 01 celica engine to a 95 supra engine, you are going backwards. That is illegal in California, why, you have to passed the smog test. To passed that, it has to be 02 celica engine, 03, 04, 05, 06, and so and so. Find a engine from a Toyota Celica of the same generation like in Japan or UK. I know Toyota Celica is the flatform used in the Toyota Rav4 before. If RAV4 has four wheel drive (4WD), the JDM Toyota Celica has the optional 4WD. In Japan, they have engines for the Celica that is not available in the USA because of emmissions reasons. Unless you are doing the "racing" thing, you don't need a smog check.

well a supra is a rear wheel drive car... and a Celica is a Front wheel drive car... why you would want to downgrade the engine is beyond me and also why would you do all that work if your not going to do anything else with the engine... it sounds to me like you have a lot of work ahead that isn't worth the trouble, why don't you just buy an 01 Celica? it would be a lot easier than a motor swap. but if you really want to do it, the install on it would run you as much as buying an 01 celica, you'll need air tools which are incredibly expensive and it is possible but i don't understand why you would want to switch...

There was a time when swapping out engines in cars was very easy, and you could mix and match engines. Now, with all the computerized garbage and specialized gadgets it's quite difficult. If you were just wanting to replace the 1.8L engine in your Celica with a new or rebuilt 1.8L engine it would probably cost you around $2,000.00 to have a mechanic do it. But trying to put in a 2.5L Supra engine is going to cost more like $6,000.00, if it can be done at all. Cars built after the mid-80's are specifically designed to take one type of engine, so trying to put in another type of engine requires all sorts of modifications like new motor mounts, new wiring harnesses (which your car may or may not support), modified exhaust systems, modified transmission linkage; the list goes on and on. In my opinion, it's really not worth the expense to do it because the car may never run "right" again after such a modification. But hey, it's your car. If you decide to have it done, be sure to have someone who knows what they're doing switch the engines out for you.
