Try and understand the exact meaning of religion and decide for yourself what to choose-

What do we mean when we talk of Religion?

Just before the time when Bhagwan Mahavira descended on Mother Earth to become a man God in his lifetime... how did the humanity exist before that as there was no Religion at all before the times of Mahavira. Gautam Buddha had not yet come, and so did Jesus Christ. It was another 700 years to go before Prophet Mohammed would be born.

If the Spiritual masters of the day belonging to various Religions proclaim that their Religion was the best and only to be followed... where were they when the humanity survived even before the likes of Bhagwan Mahavira, Jesus Christ and prophet Mohammed were even born. They have got to be wrong... they must have a vested interest in proclaiming their Religion to be the best.

Jainism flowered after the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism took birth... Bhagwan Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara precipitated the cosmic wisdom to the masses. Until the 23rd Tirthankara, Lord Parshvanath... the fragrance of the cosmic wisdom could not be spread to the masses and was limited to the Tirthankars, the Arihantas and the Acharyas (Spiritual teachers) of the times. The followers of Bhagwan Mahavira are known as following Jainism Religion. It is a different fact that Jainism is not a Religion and it is primarily a way of life. This is also confirmed from the fact that the followers of Mahavira are not known as following Mahavirism. They are known as the followers of Jainism... the definition of Jainism I shall take up later.

Buddhism is primarily the essence of the teachings of Gautama Buddha. The followers of Sidhartha Gautama are supposed to be following the Buddhism Religion. Everything contained in Buddhism is always related to the teachings of Sidhartha Gautama. The teachings of Gautama Buddha are also termed as the middle path... neither following too austere paths which is difficult to follow and not getting totally involved in the household affairs... following the middle path is what Gautama Buddha preached if one desired to crossover the ocean of Samsara (the life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations) and achieve Salvation in this life. Buddhism spread around the globe only after Sidhartha Gautama took birth learnt of the cosmic wisdom and achieved monk hood.

Christianity is a faith the followers of which comprise of believers in Jesus Christ. Those who consider Jesus Christ as the son of God... whose teachings form the primary content of the Bible... and the following of whom is termed as Christianity. Before Jesus Christ came there was nothing we could call Christianity. Christianity took its roots only after Jesus Christ was born on Mother Earth.

The followers of prophet Mohammed are called Islamite. The teachings of prophet Mohammed are primarily summarized in Koran and his following termed as the followers of Islamic Dharma neigh Religion. Islamic teachings are primarily focused on prophet Mohammed. Islamic Dharma spread only after the advent of prophet Mohammed... not before!

Jainism, Buddhism, Christianity and Islamic Dharma are normally considered as Religions... all Religions do have a central focus in them. Jainism has Bhagwan Mahavira, Buddhism has Sidhartha Gautama, Christianity has Jesus Christ and the Islamic Dharma prophet Mohammed.

What when all four of these man gods did not exist! Say about a thousand years before the advent of Bhagwan Mahavira came Lord Krishna, the Avatar. The followers of Lord Krishna are not termed as the followers of Hinduism. Not at all. What when even Lord Krishna had not yet incarnated. Even then say around 3600 years before from now the humanity survived without a Religion... how?

Now, I would explain the complete cosmic structure...

As the animal life started to evolve into Human Beings... the most initial of Human Beings just behaved like animals. There was no family structure or science to guide them. Nothing had yet evolved... it was only thousands of years later the Human Beings slowly started to realize that they were distinctly different from the animals. They somehow realized that they had something that we call as thinking power.

Using this faculty... the human race started to evolve faster. There was something that guided these Human Beings in the absence of any Religion. What was it? It was Dharma... "Your right to do what is just and right and not what was destined"... God, the Almighty Creator, directly dictated this definition of Dharma to me. Our right to live... do what is just and right... and following the dictates within... the dictates of our Atman the soul within is what we term as Dharma... the guide of total humanity in the vast expanse of Cosmos!

It was Dharma that guided Lord Krishna in his journey when Pandavas declared their famous battle against Kauravas... the battle of Dharma in the Kurukshetra region (which presently lies in Haryana state of India). A fight to the finish in which truth would prevail in the end! Pandavas who were right in their war against Adharma ultimately won... but only with the help of Lord Krishna, the Avatar.

It was not that Lord Krishna favored Pandavas... as destiny would have it, everything which belonged to Lord Krishna was initially offered to Kauravas. But the blind always remains a blind... when Lord Krishna asked of Kauravas what they desired of him out of his total possessions which consisted of his army and lord Krishna himself ... they opted for the total army of Lord Krishna to be with them. Lord Krishna said, "Amen". Kauravas failed to realize that it was their sheer bad thinking due to which Lord Krishna himself was made available to Pandavas.

With Lord Krishna himself guiding the Pandavas... how could it be that the total army of Lord Krishna would make Kauravas win the battle.

Now, what when even Lord Krishna had not yet incarnated. Even then people lived and survived without any Religion. Bhagwan Rama came around 1500 years earlier to Lord Krishna. Dharma still existed but unknown to Mankind! It was this time that the four Vedas were made available to the humanity by God, the Almighty Creator. and what are these four Vedas... the Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda!

All these four documents are the first scriptural documents... the Sacred teachings made available to Mankind by God, the Almighty Creator. There is nothing beyond them. When I say nothing means nothing! No record in history or any human being on Mother Earth can prove otherwise!

These four Vedas comprise of the total teachings which are contained in the total sacred Scriptures of all Religions of the world... there is nothing to be learnt or known beyond them. These voluminous documents were never meant for the common masses. Even if one tried to read through them one could not have understood them (if I say read through them... I am wrong for the Lipi neigh alphabets had not yet evolved). They were the core of all fundamental teachings that were available to Mankind at that time.

There had to be some wise man that could understand these voluminous Scriptural documents. As time passed by one sage after another tried to digest the contents therein. and were produced the Upanishads... the various Upanishads are treatises by different sages elaborating on different topics. Further on Upanishads later!

Initially the four elaborate Vedas and then a series of Upanishads... the humanity got lost. What to follow and what not. Who is going to explain to them the total content... the abstract at one go. The various sages themselves took years to salvage the contents and learn of the inner cosmic wisdom... what if they left their mortal frame even before the contents... the commentary could be made available to Mankind. I dont like to use the word religion, because in the bible it says God hates religion. There are so many beautiful and wonderful things in the bible that can help guide you and make you a better person through out the life God gave you. When people ask me what religion i am i say christian, but i also tell them i have a relationship with God and don't consider it a religion. There is nothing more beautiful than knowing that no matter what you have done, if you are truly sorry and believe in Jesus Christ as your savior, you are forgiven of all your sins. All your sins are taken into Gods hands and washed clean. God does not count your sins nor think one is greater than the other. All sin is equal. Wether you murdered someone or lied to your wife about where you were, its a sin. Try to Live by the ten commandments and believe in Jesus and know him (read the bible) and you will have eternal happiness. There is no other relationship as awesome as that. This is the only way to salvation.

It's nearly impossible to learn all the beliefs of every religion. If you are sincere and really want to know about God you will find Him, for He does not let anyone who wants to learn about Him to remain in darkness as to knowledge.
My suggestion to you is PRAY for the True God to show you the way.
If you're interested in the Bible, here are scriptures that prove that the God of the Bible will lead his people and not forsake them.

Daniel 2:28 calls God a Revealer of secrets.

Amos 3:7 says God reveals the truth to His servants.

1 Timothy 2:4 says that God wants all people to come to an accurate knowledge of truth.

And the last book of the Bible, called Revelation, means "unveiling". When something is unveiled you are able to see better.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to pray incessantly.

And last, but not least, the reason to learn about God is everlasting life. - John 17:3 and Matthew 5:5
Don't give up! You may find something beyond your wildest dreams!

I looked for religion for a long time...when I found it I didn´t like it, then I found a relationship with the living God we call Jesus. Christianity is the only "religion" (I really don´t like that word) that serves a God we believe is alive and living today inside the hearts of people all over the world. 1/3 of the worlds 6.5 billion people call them Christians. I spent over 20 years growing up in a religous enviornment and never had a relationship with this living God. I no longer see the bible as a religous book. It´s alive and applicable to our lives today just as it was 2000 years ago to the people who first believed. To conclude my friend, I say seek a relationship/friendship with Christ and others that follow His teachings. Be careful searching for religion. There is enough religion in the world to keep you searching for a lifetime.

Well lets not call it a religion, lets call it a faith/belief. And to find your faith something you know and completely believe is the truth you need to first be willing to study ALOT. You don't just believe in whatever comes your way, question it and find proof of the answers given. Check out this info http://www.jw.org/en/search/?q=What+religion+
Many people believe Jehovah's Witnesses come to your door to make you "convert." Our main purpose for our door to door work is so people can get a better understanding of who Jehovah is and to encourage peoples to read their bibles on a daily basis. Check out JW.org it will help a whole bunch on your search for a true and accurate knowledge of the bible. (Proverbs 2:3-9) "Keep seeking for it as for silver!"

Explore everything you can prayerfully. The Bible says that he who asks shall receive. Now, whether you believe in the Bible or not, I think this is still a true principle. Study all of the religious texts you can find (Bible, Koran, Book of Mormon, Tao Te Ching, Teachings of Buddha and Confucious, etc) and see which you feel are true. More than one may be true, or you may find things in each that are true. Figure out which seems to hold the most truth and go with a religion that goes along with it. Attend churches and see where you feel best--see what encourages and inspires you to be good on days other than sunday.

Personnally I,m Catholic, but I don't believe that you should be forced to be in a certain religion. It all depends on you. What I did and recomend is to study different religions that your family and friends are into, and decide for yourself what is right for you.
