Wow, what a bunch of interesting answers. At 37, you probably will never have wisdom teeth. They are the end result of what is referred to as dental ribbon, the left-overs of your tooth production. Some people have more ribbon and get fully developed teeth erupting as third molars. Some are smaller and are the size of bicuspids. Yet others are underdeveloped and never break thru your gums. Some of those teeth, which are generally poor quality and decay easily, become impacted. They can be tissue or bone impacted. Either way, those teeth (and even the healthier ones) usually need extraction to relieve pain and discomfort they cause and to relieve the crowding of your other 14 teeth per arch. Most people don't have the room in their jaw to accommodate their wisdom teeth anyway. I had all four develop and erupt. While mine were healthy, but they caused enough crowding of my other teeth that my anterior (front) teeth actually began to rotate because of the pressure exerted by the wisdom teeth on all the others in the upper and lower arches. I had all four extracted to keep my other teeth from being pushed around any more.

You may have some wisdom teeth, but they may not have erupted. They may never cause you pain or they may cause pressure in your jaw one day. The only way to tell for sure if you have any wisdom teeth under your gum is to go to the dentist and request a pan x-ray. It's an x-ray that shows all of your teeth and the bone structure around them. My dentist charges $50 for one (including the visit/exam), or most insurances allow one to be taken every 3 years.

Some people just don't have them grown in and impact into the other teeth causing problems like others. Its probably not that you don't have them just they don't bother your and have not surfaced so you didn't need to have them removed. If you ask your dentist the next time you see him he can do a total x-ray of your mouth that goes completely around your head to find out for sure.

Your wisdom teeth grow in when you are a young adult. So, if you do not have them at 37, you won't have them.
