It's like asking what is the difference between broccoli and vegetables, really.

The Christian church is made up of two main parts: The Catholic church, and various other denominations called Protestants. (There are also the Orthodox churches, which have their own niche, and arguably the Anglican church could be considered either Protestant or doing its own thing.) Protestants encompass any Christian denomination which is not Catholic. All Christians were Catholic up until about 500 years ago, when Martin Luther, a monk, broke off with a new interpretation of the Bible...thanks to the recent invention of the printing press and increased literacy rates, Protestantism took off.

It is works. Catholics try to earn Gods favor whereas Christians know we can do nothing to earn it and just accept the free gift of Christ. Trying to do good things is adding to the work of the cross and it is like slapping God in the face and saying "you way just wasnt good eneough, I can do better".

a better question is what is the difference between Christianity and Christendom.

there are religions who profess to be Christians but share the same teaching as Catholics....and they compose Christendom along with other religions.

There are subtle differences in the services, i believe a lot of catholic churches don't allow talking before mass in the mornings, and also they put a little more emphasis on the Virgin mary, and the crucifix rather than just the cross

I am a Catholic because I attend and belong to a Catholic church but I am also a Christian because I have been baptized in the Holy Spirit , repented of my sins, and have given my life to Jesus. I learned a lot from my Baptist husband.

Christianity is the umbrella term for Catholicism and Protestant faiths. Of course this becomes difficult with the faith of the "Born Again Christians" who call themselves just Christians or True Christians.

The word christian comes from the word Christ and therefore meaning 'followers of Christ'. I believe that both christians and catholics belive in christ and there is therefore no difference.
Whoever believes in christ is a christian,be it chatholic, Zion, Methodist, etc they are christians.

Catholic is a subdivision of Christian.
