I have athletics day in a few days time. I'm joining basically stuff that involves short explosive distances (sprinting, long jump).

Is there anything i should do to prepare for this ? Food/Nutrition especially ! I heard that what short distance and long distance runners eat before race is different.

Need to know anything and everything possible ! (even stuff not to do,etc).

try adding creatine to your diet, it helps in explosive sports through giving your muscle more ATP. a few days wont be enough time to saturate the muscle though. unless you can find the buffered version with no loading phase.

and high carbohydrate meals, like pasta. on the day you probably need something higher in sugars

hill sprints will increase your speed on the flat over short distances, and should be a part of a great training routine. hill relays, up 1/4, down, up 1/2, down, up 3/4, down, up 1/4 with one minute rests between ups. once a month you run up fully as many times as you can. this will increase your recovery times too, hill sprints like this hurt, but are over fast and work wonders on the lungs O2 uptake ability and the legs power. too late now though, you need to conserve energy
