I am having a regular molar (right before the wisdom tooth) extracted onthursday and I'm really scared about it!! Its had 3 unsucessful fillings (all fell out) and it abcessed this summer. I have braces, so it has a band around the entire tooth. What's the removal going to be like? I think I'm supposed to be prescribed an oral sedative (pill form) before the appointment. Will this really help much with my fear????

There isn't much of the tooth left....so will that make the extraction easy on me??

The oral sedative really helps. That's what I do. If they can give you nitrous oxide (laughing gas) on top of that then you'll have no problems.

It wont be as bad as you think, I will not lie about the pain though, the pressure you get when having a molar removed is quite unbearable. As far as complications and what not if the tooth is not entirely rotted it will come out just fine and the pain will basically instantly stop. As far as the braces wrapped around it, dont worry about what it is going to look like afterwards it will appear slightly whiter under the ring. The medications they will give you are anti-inflamatories and anti-biotics, they may ask if you need pain killers aswell. After all is said and done you will be relieved to get rid of that tooth, I to have had plenty of unsuccessful fillings and had one abcessed tooth before, all will be much better, I promise you.

It will help some, maybe enough for you. But, to me-the novicane needle hurts worse- even being pre-medicated.
