Is it me or does Richard Dawkins come across as a bit of an elitist? I applaud some of his methods but his confrontational tactics do make it seem like he thinks atheists are better than other people.

Am I just looking at it the wrong way?

Atheists are better than people who feel a need to give meaning to their lives through delusional superstitious god concepts. Atheists use their intellect, that is what makes them superior to mindless religious automatons.

R. Dawkins is a fine scientist, published in the journal Nature. Do not discount him. He has his faults like any human being.

A lot of atheists tend to do this. I don't think it's so much the belief system, but atheists in the public eye like Dawkins are invariably so well-educated they're useless with people--more intellectual elitism than anything else, I think.

This coming from a most-of-the-time atheist working on my master's and trying to curb such tendencies in myself...

I understand how you feel. Most probably the reason is that we are defensive. Religious people intrude on our morals and thoughts so much, that in fighting back, we get aggressive ourselves.

Yeah, in a sense he's guilty of the same things so many religious folks are guilty of - dogmatism, arrogance, intolerance.
