The whole IDEA is PURIFYING URSELF
Be it bodily or spiritually.....
Bodily means that when u fast, ur digestive system is allowed to rest for sometime.....
Otherwise,24/7, 365 days a year it will run like hell....
The Idea is just to give it some rest,
Where as, spiritually means that when we fast, [which is actually ordered to us by our GOD,] we obey our GOD...
which brings us closer to our GOD....
& As much as u come closer to GOD, u become more & more saint, & hence u lead a peacefull life .....

Fasting is one of the best methods of maintaining health. There are many reasons for fasting in Religion.
1. Healthy- because your system gets rest and all enzymes and juices in the body gets rejuvenated.
2. You can increase your will power to control your wants- the basic and the lowest being hunger and thirst.
3. You can help burn out what ever reserve food is tored in the body. During ancient times, human beings also used to get one meal a day or once in a week or so. There was a the body storage system like the animals who eat very infrequently. Now the human beings have these storage food converted into fat and cause obesity.
4. Help you to concentrate. Pray. Empty stomach is better to concentrate. When you are full, your blood will be more active in the alimentary tract to digest and absorb.
5. Leran to know the value of food. You will know how important the food is when you fast.
6. you will learn to control your urges and wants.
7. You will also become more compassionate becaseu you will know the difficulty of the people who are starving.

Fasting empowers the spirit of God in us. Jesus said these kind come out only by prayer and fasting. There is a Power that comes from fasting if you are bron again. We as christians are called to Fast. Many disobey that command today. Fasting also allows the body to rest and to rebuild key internal functions of the body. Done correctly fasting will emprove the health of a person, will improve the deigestive system and the liver and kidney function. People can fast food up to 40 or so days. Water only a week. As a Catholic, I voluntarily fast from everything except water, and the morning and evening reception of the holy sacrament of the Eucharist, for several 3-day periods, during the course of each year.
Catholics believe that Jesus meant it literally when he said, "'This is my body.' and 'This is my blood.'"
In this way, I manage to rely TOTALLY on God for ALL my sustenance, both physical and spiritual, for the duration of each fast.
I suggest that everyone who is physically able should try this, as it will give you a whole new perspective on the significance of God in your life.
The many spiritual benefits, as well as the actual, temporal results, might also amaze you.

Fasting is an important ritual for religion. Once the body is deprived of food long enough, the mind will begin to hallucinate, which everyone knows is necessary if you are going to be coerced into believing the colossal pile of superstitious delusional crap they call ultimate truth.

The only good reason to fast is for medicinal purposes, having X-rays, blood work. You can't run a car without fuel, and your body uses food for fuel. One of the reasons religious people fast is the euphoric feeling they get after a few days of fasting. They mistake this feeling for a religious experience, when in reality their bodies are sending them a danger signal. PS In posting this, I'm not saying I don't believe in God, I wish the Holy Rollers would'nt jump to conclusions.

Fasting was done strictly to bring one to feel closer to God. , through praying . JKV Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Fasting is not to be done just for show. We can still fast today but we are not to make public spectacles of ourselves.

It shows sacrifice of something that you love in order for you to get something that you feel is needed in your life. You pray about what you need in your life and give up something for a period of time to get it.
