It's true... everyone will always proclaim what they believe as the ultimate truth and the ultimate answer to everything. They never question themselves because they already 'KNOW' the truth.

For example..

The atheist says 'There is no God'. He doesn't say 'I don't think there is a God'.. he says 'There is no God'. And that's final.

The Christian says 'There is one God, and He only accepts Christians into Heaven. You must be a believer in Christ otherwise He will not let you in there'

The Muslim says 'God is Allah, and He only accepts true-believers (Muslims) into Heaven... all infidels will perish'

Same thing with Jews, Catholics, Hindus... all across the board.

No-one ever comes along and says 'look I'll be honest, I'm only a human being, I don't totally understand everything about God and the Universe. Maybe God doesn't care what religion you are, He cares more about how you treat others and how you live your life' or anything.

So why is it like this?

In all major religions, the followers strive to rid themselves of sin through various practices. They may pray in a prescribed way, do various good works, deny themselves legitimate sexual pleasure, follow dietary restrictions, lie on beds of nails, etc. The uniqueness of Jesus is shown in His statement, "The Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins." No other religious leader has ever made this claim. Jesus Christ alone can wash away every sin anyone has ever committed, be-cause of what He did on the cross. By paying the penalty for our sin, He can release us from the torture of guilt. We cannot do anything in the way of religious works to wash away our sins. Forgiveness is a free gift of God (Ephesians 2:8,9).

The answer, briefly, is that throughout history people seem to have needed to create religions (and God) to help them understand the world and apply basic hygiene (food rules), provide rules for sexual relations, marriage and bringing up children etc.

Just because this has happened in the past (and present) doesn't make it true. People once believed the earth was flat, that it was created in seven days, they thought that slavery was OK, they believed men were superior to women (oh! most of the religions still seem to believe that) etc.

Perhaps I can explain why I am an atheist and not an agnostic. Atheists, like me, prefer to take a rational and scientific approach to life. Atheists do not claim that we are certain about everything. What we do say is that by scientific enquiry and rational debate we will gradually get to know more. At the moment this has not led to us discovering God. So believing in God is as irrelevant as believing that the centre of the earth is made of cheese. No one has been there - it might be! Perhaps we will not know everything - we certainly do not do so now. So we have to make the best of our current knowledge and extend it as far as we can.

You don't mention Spiritualism! I do know it is right because I have absolute proof that it is - can any other religion say this? The difference between Christianity and Spiritualism is that Christians believe in the Resurrection, Spiritualists believe in the soul living on, Christians don't have proof but Spiritualists do. However, as a spiritualist I don't proclaim to know all about God and the Universe but I have learnt from the passed over souls quite a bit. And, yes, I agree with you that God cares more about how we treat others and how we live our life. I would also add that I was bought up as a Christian but through my experiences as a Medium I now know that Spiritualism is the true way - although I don't expect people to agree with me! All I would say is don't condemn until you prove or disprove.

I agree that we should all be tolerant of others. However, I don't think grouping all of the Christians together and saying that ALL of them hate everyone who doesn't believe in Jesus. Those people who aren't tolerant of others were taught that way just as you were taught to love everyone. There are plenty of other people who hate each other based on religion and it's not just Christians, it can be Jews, Muslims, people who don't have religion... However, not everyone who has a religious belief hates other people who are not their religion. I hope that made sense.

'look I'll be honest, I'm only a human being, I don't totally understand everything about God and the Universe but I spent a lot of time and intelligence to find the best answers and I believe I found them. There are still many questions that I have and many matters that are blurred, but I take one step at the time and I believe God leads me in my search. I believe I'm right, I share my experience with others, because it's the best thing that happened to me and it looks very unnecessary to start with words:"I think....." always, because if I'm going to state something then it must be something I think, otherwise I would emphasise that I'm using someone else words.
I don't believe it's enough to treat others nicely, be polite, honest....etc. because, being a Christian I believe we are saved by grace and not by our deeds so that no one can brag about that.

To KNOW they must have experienced something themselves. I personally have experienced some supernatural experience. Some people THINK religious people are irrational and nonsensical because they ascribe to a world that cannot be seen because they're in a spiritual realm. This troubles people who THINK they're the rational ones.

Pieces of a Puzzle. Everyone has pieces of a puzzle that reveals different parts of the puzzle. Some have more pieces than others and some have better pieces than others. Some have pieces that fit together and others have pieces that do not fit together.

I do my best to find the harmony among the various pieces of the puzzle. It takes a lifetime just to get a small portion of the puzzle together. It we take the time to look at creation and the various creatures that inhabit the universe, then maybe we will discover the Creator that made us in his image. Here is a sample:

Existence of man: living, human, being.
Essence of man: mind, body, soul.
Existence of God: Omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscience.
Essence of God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

Creative Process: Physical, mental, spiritual.

These are key points in the puzzle.

Because "religion" was made by man to fit our ability to believe in something. If you are a Christian then you believe in God. If you are Muslim you believe in Allah. If you are a Jew you believe in God but not in Jesus.
Being Human we have to choose how we are to follow our faith. Some "religious beliefs" help us by allowing restrictions to help us follow our Faith.
Does that make one "religion" better than another? Well only you as an individual can make that decision.
Personally I believe that Jesus was God's son and he died on the cross so that I would not have to go through rituals to attone for my sins. I am human and will make "mistakes" or sins. I am very grateful that I have someone that is willing to help me through those times.
Good luck in getting your answers and you are right I am human and do not have all the answers but have a path that I am following that a lot of the time I wouldn't make it without my faith in God.

I believe that this is related to a lack of empathy typical of our times.

Most people seem to think that everyone else is just a prop or some sort of mobile background to their own existence, and so their opinion is mostly wrong (because people are objects and the only one really real is me). Even honest, well-meant people are like this, only less so.

I think that the moment you realize that everyone else is more or less as terrified of the world as you are, you begin to understand that the truth is just a generalisation that really does not exist.

Religions that pass themselves off as 'the truth' should be done for false claims. They cannot prove to be truthful, as many other opposing religions also make the same claim. However, atheists are better able to 'prove' that they are right, as there is a complete lack of deity evidence to prove their belief. This same lack of evidence makes it impossible for any religion to prove its authenticity.

You are absolutey right. I've wondered about this, too. There are so many different views and beliefs on here, as well as in the world, so imagine that God must be confused.( God smiles) In my view, after having been in several different religions, as well as a cult, I have come to the conclusion that I don't need "religion"...I believe in Spirituality, having a one to one personal relationship with God, and the bottom line is that God knows our hearts, so the name of the group that a person identifies with, does not matter to God.
Another important thing, relating to your question, is that we have no right to judge another's beliefs, or to try to tell them they're wrong! We have enough to do, if and when we find out that one of our beliefs is in question, to study more and find out the truth as God wants us to. We shouldn't be to proud to change..God wants us to prove all things, and to worship in Spirit and truth.
God Bless you, and thanks for asking this important question,
