I have a chuchua how ever its speeled (taco dog) I bought her about a month ago. She had fleas horribly which we are currently working on. she was born sept. 20. She is not old enough to flea dip or anything do its pointless in m e bombing the house. Well when I first got her I didnt know she had to be a certain age to have a flea bath so I used Herz w.e. shampoo that was flea control Ive noticed she has scabs on her skin. I only bathed her once in the shampoo every other time i just use water and a heavy duty facet w. power to spray them off. She did only have 3 scabs now she has 4 or 5. what am i to do and what could be causing this. Shes had all of her shots except one she goes back in 2 weeks and had been wormed twice and gets wormed again in 2 weeks. what am i to do about the fleas also we have no other dogs. Thank You

First, have your vet check too see if she's gotten a secondary bacteria infection or mange.
Food, beniful is not the best, sorry... use this site to rate the food... I swear you'll be surprised (beniful scored 17 which is a low F) http://www.connecticutk9.com/dogfood.htm
I am now using Fromm Four Star, both the chicken and the duck have rated 130 according the the previous site I listed.. thats an A+++! http://www.frommfamilyfoods.com/index.asp (there are other good brands, like eagle pack, blue buffalo, and Dick van pattern natural balance..) go holistic, the benifits out weigh the cost, and a Chi doesn't eat much any way. You can find these types of food at petco, petmart, or a local feed store (feed store is were I go.) You can also order on line.
The directions on the hartz should say either pups 8 + weeks or 12 + weeks, but honestly, you should go ahead and get something from your vet like Advantage or Frontline, which can be used at 6 weeks, and then use a growth inhibitor for you home. Use a flea comb as well
Good Luck!

Never use store brand items...they are JUNK! The reason her skin hasn't cleared up is the reaction really started the minute you bathed her. Once that stuff touched her it caused the reaction. What you are seeing now are the after effects. The whole process will take at least two weeks to clear up. Just about the time you have your next vet visit. Ask your vet to recommend a good shampoo that is for sensitive skinned dogs. As far as your house is concerned vacuuming every hour if need be is the most effective remedy for fleas. Good Luck ! Glad to see you are taking dog to vets.

She may be having a reaction to the flea bites. I am not sure how early you can start, but talk to your vet about frontline or advantax, also garlic. I know you have to watch how much garlic you give them, as it can cause anemia if you give to much, but it taints the blood of the dog so that the fleas do not like it. Go ahead and treat your living space, You will probably have to do this more than once but @ least this way you have a fighting chance for the other dogs.

Hello,
Your puppy can have a flea bath at 10 weeks of age. This will not hurt your puppy if even done earlier. Your puppy most likely has tape worms as a infected puppy as what you described will have tape worms so you are going to need to get hold of your vet so you can take care of that problem. I would take your puppy to a profeshional groomer. Have them remove the fleas and eggs while you bomb your house. Be sure to purchase enough for the square footage of house you live in. Once that is done along with vet care put on frontline you can put this on a puppy as early as 10 weeks of age. Be sure to get that tape wormer. Dont by the over the counter junk it is not effective enough. Then be sure to retreat your home and puppy a week later and do this for a few weeks as the eggs will hatch at random times in your house as the bomber even saying kills eggs can not get everything.
Good LUck.

Dawn works great.
A dog can continue to scratch the bites even once the fleas are gone. Her size I would be cautious of giving her anything but the vet can help her with a cortisone shot. I rescue so I get dogs sometimes loaded with fleas. Once I get rid of the fleas I have the vet give them cortisone to stop the itching and help the bites heal.

I don't know what may be causing the scabs, possibly the flea shampoo, but it sounds like you are bathing her way too frequently. Possibly her skin is getting terribly dried out. Also, it alarms me that you are using a 'power faucet' to spray them off. Those are tiny little dogs (and still puppies!) It must be awfully rough on them to use a power spray on them. Please, PLEASE call your vet as soon as you can and let them know all that you can about this - they will help. Also, hang in there... I hope I wasn't too harsh on you, you obviously do care about your pets, but please be very careful before using anything on your pets or feeding them anything - you would be surprised what things can make them very sick or kill them! (chocolate can kill some dogs.)
Good luck...

Maybe she having a reaction to that stuff that you put on. I would call the vet, and explain. Is the dog kept outside? Maybe you washed the dog too often and the natural oils are depleted. what food does the dog eat? It's a delicate little dog and needs to be treated as such!

hi im, not an expert but you may try washing her in woolwash for the fleas and as for the scabs, she can get this reaction from the actual flea bite. if you have some aloe vera gel, i would try that on her. i hope this helps.
