its like believing in god, its the mentality thats been around for centuries, for ever basically, that theere is something greater in control, it isnt our responsibility, someone else makes the descisions.

Be careful. What you are actually conveying to the world is that even if we name every possible star and discuss if we should call a huge floating mass in space as an asteroid or a planet or find out that there was another weird place like the universe just before the Big Bang, and every possible info we can collect with our inadequate senses (eyes which can only see a part of the spectrum, ears that can only hear some frequencies) and three-dimentional view of the world (when actually there are a lot many more and all instruments are created using our understanding only, thus might be inaccurate in some respects) --- we are all going to die and loose all that fancy egoistic self-important probably incomplete and inaccurate information.
I'd like instead to say, "Universe might be too big to understand or think about, but a man can try to believe that he is here to answer that question for himself. Can't he?"
The religious people are all doing that in their own way using a different type of view. Let them be. Who cares? Everyone needs to find his own truth or calling.
And it is different for each one of us.

Because the experiences of the human race has told us so. There is something about us (a soul) which yearns for God. Humans have know this as far back as the cave people days. If there were not a higher purpose for us, then why exist at all? All of us have faith, hope and love in us. Faith as small as a seed is all we need. These virtues give meaning to our lives.

There is nothing more to life than what there is. The question is, when will people accept that what they can see is not all there is? Just because we can't see the spiritual realm with our eyes does not mean it doesn't exist.
But when we die, if we just turned into nothing, that would be fine. But if we have to face judgment, then that would definitely be terrible, unless we have the protection of Jesus Christ who died to pay the penalty for our sins.
Just because we don't always agree with God doesn't mean that He isn't right. He is *always* right. So regardless of the arguments against Him, His Word will always stand. Try to make sure you're on the right side. Peace.

It's not a question of whether it's terrible or not. It's a question of whether it's accurate it or not. Given the scope of the universe, I at very least think there's more to the nature of this universe than we're currently aware of.
It would be nice if we could somehow see our 'universe' from the outside looking in - I honestly think that sort of vantage point would yield some interesting insights. M-Theory suggests our 'universe' may merely be a small component of something much larger. (some sort of brane construct)

no, it wouldn't be so terrible. But it isn't. And everyone knows it. You, too. And Jesus proved it by rising from the dead and ascending bodily into the heavens. So we have to come to grips with it - that there is a life, an existence beyond this one. More than that, that we will face God and have to give an account of our lives. We are basically in ultimate denial by ignoring it or pretending it ain't real.

Because the idea of just being a dot of dust in the univerise scares the pants of them, it is just too big for us to handle that we simply exist for no reason at all.

Because they feel lonely. They need to dissolve themselves into something greater than themselves, in order to escape from loneliness.

Wow, what a pessimistic life you seem to have by reading your questions.
We believe in God, We believe what He tells us, We look around and realize all we see could not possible have come here merely by chance.
There is more, a LOT more. I hope you come to find that someday for yourself.
You have a good life..............
