The term coconut refers to the fruit of the coconut palm. It is like a nut, but botanically, a coconut is a simple dry fruit known as a fibrous drupe (not a true nut).

It's definitely fruit. I'm from Asia where we see bunches of coconuts. The juice is really good!!! The reason for it's to be called coco"nut" is because of the hard shell out side. Inside you find only juice and tasty "meat". Hmmm, yummie!!!

Brilliant question... in my research I found it to be labelled a SPICE!

Definition: Pungent or aromatic seasonings obtained from the bark, buds, fruit, roots, seeds or stems of various plants and trees (whereas herbs usually come from the leafy part of a plant).

It isn't a fruit.
It isn't a vegetable.
It produces a nut, what we commonly think of - but, that's only one component!

As the juice is used independently
as is parts of the the actual tree/trunk
as is the oil compressed from the khopra...

So there you go, make up your own minds...
