I went to the doctor and ask the nurse for a list of my prescriptions (over 20) she would have had no problem giving this to me-one little click would have done it. I saw the doctor and would have been better off staying at home since he yelled at me and even threatened to put me in the hospital whether i wanted to go or not. He knows that i can not take colesterol medication and was yelling at me over that. Have all family doctors quit helping their patients and only become legal drug pushers? He Kept me waiting much longer then the time that i had my appointment. Then yelled at me because of the list i needed. Mentioned cat hairs that i was suoposed to have on my back and ask why i was on disability. I think that medicaid had something to do with the way he acted. Up until today i thought that he was a nice doctor. Are all family doctors just plain rude? I did not even get to ask about a flue shot or whether or not he thought i should take one yet since i have been sick.

I can not take cholestrol medicine and i do not need someone trying to push me to take it. Have you family practioners ever considered that you are partly responsible for not being looked up to like you once were? I may not have a college education like you do but i do know how to think for myself. Try treating your patients like they have feelings because they do. Maybe get rid of those working for you who can not give a patient a simple list and also took off a certain medication that you did not even approve! Who is the doctor anyway. If you want the respect that you think you deserve then earn it!

So called normal lives have a lot of stress attached to them as well. Living and just trying to get by is not being on easy street. I guess that it could all be blamed on the insurance companies and malpractice lawsuits. The truth is that it is attitude. As far as the internet goes doctors do not have it to themselves. If i answer a question where health is mentioned then i tell the person that they should see a doctor. Maybe i should say; put in your ear plugs and go see a doctor at your own risk! After that could be legal advice couldn't it? We all look for answers and we all are deserve to get good ones. I may read about a health issue on the internet. If that is unacceptable then i guess that is just plain tough!

No, not all family practice doctors yell at their patients. Though, these days, all doctors do have a lot more stress than they did 50 years ago. No longer are they considered the masters of their art, the benevolent, paternal/maternal loving figures that they once were. The doctor has been reduced to an advisor whose advice is often criticized, held in suspicion, and frequently ignored.

Driven by tight fisted insurance companies on one side and malpractice lawyers and patients with medical degrees gained from internet websites on the other, doctors, in order to document and justify every move and decision they make, all the while trying to keep their doors open by seeing patients every ten to fifteen minutes, no longer have the liberty or the time to spend caring for their patients who really need them.

I do not defend any physician who yells at their patient. It is rude, it is unprofessional, and it is not what being a doctor, even in this era, is about. But imagine this... you are a doctor. You have just finished seeing 12 patients, you still have 4 waiting in the waiting room and its not even noon yet. Each of those 12 patients just needed 5 minutes more of your time than was allotted for their appointment, and you are now 1 hour behind schedule. You come into an exam room to see a patient whom you know well who still hasn't taken the advice you gave him a hundred times before about controlling his cholesterol, taking his medications, watching his diet and exercise, taking his allergy or asthma medications, trying to stay away from triggers that make his asthma worse like his smoking habits and his cat, trying to make him realize that if he doesn't get his act together soon he will end up in the hospital or in the grave, and trying to make him understand that you are not doing this because of the pennies on the dollar that his insurance company is paying you for your work but because you truly do care about his health and well being... how would you feel? Would you feel like yelling?

Let me tell you one thing. All doctors feel like yelling. All doctors feel like screaming. All doctors feel like throwing out everything that they ever learned or was trained to do and leave it all just to lead a normal life. But they don't. Why? Because they are doctors.
