Depends on what kind of conflict. When our last assistant was hired, she was "unqualified and incompetent". I just noted everything she sucked at. When the time came, my boss asked me how everything was going. I told him that she couldn't even use a microwave or timer, much less a pipette. She got canned a week later after he worked with her.
If you're having personal problems, it's a whole different story. Try to act like a politician. If you two don't like one another, you should try to make a truce to put your differences aside from clock in to clock out. Or have different tasks, so you won't have to mess with one another's stuff/space.

A couple of technicians had a problem with a chick in the lab. At first we tried to handle the problem ourselves, we confronted her a couple of times but she didn't care and she wouldn't listen. So I went to my immediate supervisor and he handled the problem for us. (After the fact that, her and I got into it at a bar) She couldn't get over the fact that she couldn't do whatever she wanted to do, so he quit and went to work for a clinic. It's now a peaceful place to work.
