No. It's definitely not out of place. In Islam, we also wish "Bless you" (albeit in Arabic) when one hears a fellow muslim sneeze. In fact such gesture shown to anyone regardless of religion breeds harmony. So even if one is a muslim, christian, jew, buddhist... giving such blessing to someone who's sneezed should not be seen as inappropriate.

I don't think it's out of place to say that to people who believe in some god that could bless them (at least I've never heard of a religious person having a problem with that). It is kind of out of place with atheists though, better would be to say "gesundheit" or "be well" or something.

No it's not. I remember reading somewhere that your heart stops for a nanosecond or something like that. So that's why people say bless you when you sneeze.

I never say "bless you" since I'm not religious. A nice hearty "Gezundhiet!" might work, but generally I don't say anything. I leave it up to the person sneezing, who then usually just says "excuse me".

I would think it is OK and I am a pagan.
The "bless you" came from people thinking that your heart stopped when you sneezed (if I remembered it correctly).

I think "bless you" is fine to say to anyone of any religion. You aren't saying God bless you, so how could it be offensive? You are blessing them and by whom is up to them.

"Bless you" is perfectly acceptable....
All religions accept God in one form or another. You're not telling them which God is blessing them. You're just wishing a blessing on them.

If someone get's upset for you saying "bless you" you were already on thin ice with them before you said it.
