It is hard to say because everyone is different with different needs and different perspectives in life. I work in home and community care which is working with aged people, people with disabilities and also people who are really sick. One of my clients has terminal cancer so to ask her how she is, isn't really a good question because at the moment she is feeling angry about life and i get a bitter response. You need to assess every situation as a different one. You can't "make" anyone happy in life, you can just demonstrate a positive attitude and see everyone as an individual human being. Comedy may work for one person but another person may want to talk about life. Another person again may become angry, sad and distressed remembering what life was once and another person may embrace the life they have lived. Best advice, be kind hearted, smile and observe each persons personality to determine the best way to act around them to help them feel uplifted and comfortable.

one of the best things you could do is bring them cannibas sativa baked into snacks but of course this is illegal for no good reason and you would get fined or go to jail, too bad the FDA is corrupt

marijuana is medicine

laughter is great medicine too, ask them what they like and do your best to give it to them

keep in mind that most of them do not want sympathy or to cause others to suffer, it causes them feelings of guilt, just be real and sit in silence or cry with them, they are sad, don't try to 'make ' them happy
