There are lots of ways, depending on what you have on hand. Here are a few suggestions, and you can decide how you want to do it. You make a basic tomato-onion sauce, and then add things to it to make it more interesting. You can add all or some of these suggestions, any combination will taste good. I just use what I have in the pantry or freezer.

For all of them, start by frying

one chopped onion
1or 2 garlic cloves in
2-3 tblsp oil, preferably olive oil, but any vegetable oil is fine.

fry until just starting to turn golden. If you want meat in your spaghetti sauce, about half way through cooking your onions, add

1pound ground beef

break it up with your spoon or spatula, cook until browned. Drain, if it had a lot of extra fat.

Add either
2 cans of tomato sauce and one can of diced tomatoes

OR
1 can of tomato paste, 2 cups water and one can of diced tomatoes

OR 3 or 4 cans diced tomatoes ( you will need to cook this longer to thicken it)

OR you can leave out the diced tomatoes, and just use paste or sauce. If you have canned whole tomatoes or stewed tomatoes, you can cut those up a little and use them, or you can replace the sauce or paste with tomato puree.

For the most basic sauce, just simmer this for at least a half hour and put it on your noodles. The longer the sauce cooks, the better it tastes. I try to simmer it a minimum of 2 hours.

ADDITIONS: For extra yummy, add a teaspoon or two of Italian Seasoning, OR a tsp of oregano, 1/2 tsp thyme, a little rosemary, a tsp. marjoram.

To give it a little more character you can add a grated carrot or a tsp sugar.

You can add some red wine- up to about a half cup for this amount.

Instead of hamburger, you can add store bought or homemade meatballs to the sauce, and simmer until done

Use Italian sausage; either make meatballs out of it, brown them, and add them to the sauce, simmer at least an hour, or you can put whole browned sausages in, and simmer.

Some people like to add diced bell peppers when they brown the onions.

You can add any or all of these things to your sauce, and it will be good. Don't forget salt and pepper to taste.

For the pasta, boil several quarts of salted water. Add a tblsp of oil so the strands don't stick together. Add pasta, boil until just barely soft, still a little chewy. Drain in colander.

G'day rafla,

Thank you for your question.

Spaghetti is a long, thin form of pasta most commonly used in spaghetti bolognaise although there are other variations such as spaghetti neapolitan. Most spaghetti sold and consumed is commercially prepared, then dried. Spaghetti is cooked by boiling the pasta in salted water until soft. The consistency or texture of spaghetti changes as it is cooked. The most popular consistency is al dente which is translated from the Italian as "to the tooth"; that is soft but with texture, sometimes even with bite in the center. Others prefer their spaghetti fully cooked, which gives it a much softer consistency. The best dried spaghetti is made from durum wheat semolina. Fresh spaghetti should be prepared with grade '00' flour. Inferior spaghetti is often found produced with other kinds of flour, especially outside Italy.

An emblem of Italian cuisine, spaghetti is frequently served in tomato sauce, which may contain various herbs (especially oregano and basil), olive oil, meat, or vegetables. Other toppings include any of several hard cheeses, such as Pecorino Romano, Parmesan or Asiago. Outside Italy it is often served with meatballs, although that is not a typical Italian recipe.

I enclose recipes for spaghetti for your reference.

Regards

Absolute musts for spaghetti

cooke it in a large pan in plenty of water.

Put in your spaghettis when the water boils

The cooking times is indicated on the package. But often the time-indication is too long. I advice you to try out 3-4 minutes before.
Cause spaghettis have different shapes and qualities so the cooking time can range.
In my opinion you may have to taste your spaghettis several times to see if it is "al dente" :

Fix-sauces

If you are a beginner in cooking spaghetti you can buy fix-sauces. (Just warm up; Time can range from 2 till 5min middle or lower heat. It strongly depends on the sauce you buy. Please read the indications on the wrap. But dont cook exactly like that. Important rule: try out with the aid of your common sense. and taste it from time to time. / Dont forget to stir it up / First cook the spaghettis)

Fresh sauce

I prefer just fresh things: tomatoe; extra vergin olive oil; fresh herbs like basil.
Put olive oil in a sauce pan. If it begins to boil put within garlic if you like. And then the cutten fresh tomatoes. Try out to spice how you like but aaaaaaaaaaattention: The fresh herbs at the absolute end. I also like herbs on my spaghettis that arent cooked.

Important:

If you decide to cook a fresh sauce with fresch ingredients you have to be aware that a fresh sauce takes long (15 minutes at least, you have to try out how you like it./ Cook the sauce first in contrary of the fix-sauce)
Imporant is also after the part with the olive oil you have to put down the heat to meadle heat. Dont forget always to stir up.
Put in wather and olive oil from time to time while cooking by middle heat till it has the consistency you like. Dont put too much or too less liquide. Use your cammon sense. Its every time different. It depends on the quality and quantity, the origin of the greenstuff as well as their proportion. Serve it with fresh italian herbs (not cooked) and vergin olive oil as well as parmesan. The quantity and proportion you have to try out. Cause there are people who like it with much olive oil and others who like fresh herbs. By the way olives or seafood are also great in the sauce. But more of this when you suceed in cooking normal spaghettis.

Appetito
