A morbid question I know!
We recently had someone in to work on our boiler and found out that they had botched it so much that if it had been windy enough during the night the whole thing could have blown!
has anybody ever been close to being severly injured/dead but not noticed and found out a few days later?
Comedy anacdotes welcome!

I was electricuted once, when I was much younger. My family were moving to england (dad was in the army) and my parents were moving a shrank. It was big and heavy and as they lifted the top half of it, they realised the plug was stuck. My mother said to me 'just snip that wire comming out the back' and like a good child, I did as I was told. Ouch! My hair was on end and I couldnt stop being ill! I went to the docs, I was fine, but they said that if it hadnt have been for the plastic coating on the scissors, the story could of had a different ending!!!
Just missed being hit by a car by about 1/2 an inch as well!

A couple of occasions.
When I was 10 me and my family were moving house. We were driving along the motor way late that night when a lorry ahead of us carrying a load of huge steel pallets dropped about 5 onto the road. The came flying towards the car with sparks going everywhere. Luckily my dad swerved into the next lane and the pallets missed the car but it would have been almost certain death if they had.
When I was 15 I had a burst appendix for 8 days and was misdiagnosed with a bladder infection!

When I was at uni in a flat share myself and my flat mates had a couple of days of feeling really lethargic and headachy. After a couple of days of this I finally decided to check the carbon-monoxide patch that we had by the boiler...it was turning a nasty shade of brown!!
Opening all the windows and bundling our of the flat as fast as our very heavy legs would carry us we went to report it to our landlord. To her credit the boiler was removed and made safe within about an hour.
Its kinda scary to think that if the leak had been stronger or if I hadn't checked it when I did anything could have happened to us.

I fell and hit my head whilst I was drunk, and although it didn't seem painful at the time, there was a lot of blood. Had to go to hospital, but it wasn't until the next day I actually realised how serious it could've been.
Also heard a story of someone who did a similar thing whilst drunk except they had fallen and hit their head off of the kerb and subsequently got run over and killed!

Yes when my brakes failed in heavy rain on Snake Pass. I think my guardian angel was working overtime that day and it wasn't until I had got to the bottom and was sat there with the car stopped that I realised how close I had been.

Some friends and myself were walking through the bush in Zimbabwe. It was hot so when we came across a river we thought it would be a good idea to cool off. Once everyone had finished swimming we started putting on our clothes when one of my mates saw a croc coming out of the water on the other side of the river and pointed it out to us.

Blew myself up with a propane cylinder in February.... but then, I have to admint I did notice it, although I didn' realise how dangerous it had been for a few hours (when the morphine wore off )

Yes, twice actually. One time I was involved in a car accident, and the other I had blood poisoning as a result of chicken pox.

house struck by lightning as i was walking out the door with my 2 month old daughter and my GS dog. we were all fine-thankfully, all the elecricals in the house melted!!!

well when i was 8 yrs old me and 2 other girls that were sisters were playing with me outside when ur next door neighbor who lived 2 house down told us he wanted to play tag with us. he told me to hide with him in his house i said no, but the other girl went in my behalf. Unfornately she got raped and killed, but the son of a ***** got caught. if i remember correctly, he got life in prison. I feel bad for her sister though, they were good ppl.
