In some ways like absolute contrast and brightness, but LCD is
quickly closing the gap. Really, overall LCD is the better value.
Look to Sony's Bravia XBR models for the best in LCD HDTV
performance. The 37" Westinghouse 1080p HDTV is perhaps
the best value going currently.

Right off the shelf the plasma is better. Over the years LCD is better. The colors are brighter on plasma but they have many drawbacks. They put out a lot of heat and they do not last nearly as long. Go LCD if you like your bang for the buck. If you are filthy rich, go plasma and get a new one in 5 years.

LCD TV is always better than Plasma. Plasma it is technology of last 20 years, but LCD is more. Simple example is the screen of electronic watch or calculator. Therefore LCD is much more experienced technology.
Plasma positives: Cost cheaper than LCD, Good design, big screens up to 60".
Plasma negatives: Warming, screen resolution up to 140 and some models up to 160 degree.
LCD positives: Light weight, perfect screen resolution up to 170 degree, low electricity capabilities
LCD negatives: Cost, non availability of big sizes. Also when you are watching for example racing, on screen sometimes you can see fog after fast moved object. In other words if you moving fast your computer mice you can see some tail behind your cursor.
Wish you good luck.
P.S. Best Plasma brands is Panasonic and best LCD brands is Sony.

Newer plasmas have a much loner anticipated lifespan than models from a few years ago. They do dim over the years and are subject to burn-in if you leave a static image on the screen for long periods of time (like some video games)

While the picture quality of plasma is usually better than LCD, base your decision upon looking at the different models in person and choose the one that looks best to you. Definitely compare which one gives a better black- on some flat panels the "black" looks almost gray- avoid those.

Regardless of which technology is better or not (and you will get 100 different answers from 100 different people), consider your rooms lighting conditions.

Plasma TVs have a highly polished screen and tend to reflect a lot of lights from lamps, windows, etc. LCDs have a non-glare coating on the screen and reflect considerably less light than Plasmas.

So if your room is fairly dark or you are able to control your lights pretty well, go with Plasma. But if your room is really bright and you can't control light sources very well, go with LCD.

I, personally, have a Samsung 46" LCD in a really bright room with lots of windows and the picture is amazing even on really bright summer days with all the curtains open.

Not going into the technical issues what i can say is that --

When it comes to picture quality plasma is always a better choice.

PLasma has a better viewing angle(almost 160) than LCDs

THough now a days Plasmas have a better life span, but not as long as LCDs.

PLasmas consume more electricity than LCDs.

Now the choice is urs according to what is ur preference.

LCD, but be sure to compare the specs. I don't think a plasma and LCD with the smae specs would cost the same. Check out this link for some research.
