All of the above. Every branch has a different function. No other military in the world can be our equal.

I'd say as far as training goes (excluding all the special forces) the Marines have it the hardest, then Army, then Navy, then Air Force. I don't know about Navy and Marine living conditions, but the Army's are roach coach compared to the Air Force's. We all kind of need each other (I'm Army). And they all kind of kick *** in their own way. We can have a hundred guys on the ground w/small arms and such, and the AF can just fly over and take out the whole city. But that's really their equipment that kicks ***. Kind of a tough question. Of course, in the urban warfare going on in Iraq, Army and Marines see the most action, hands down. Not sure what the Navy is really doing over there, but the Air Force only stays half as long as the Army. So I guess make your own decision. I'm sticking with Marines.
Oh, by the way, Coast Guard doesn't "do" combat.

Actually its an issue of supply and demand. The Army is the largest branch of the military and therefore always in the greatest need of numbers. The DOD makes it easy for Marines to go Army but difficult for Soldiers to go USMC. It has little to do with the style or intensity of basic training but merely that the DoD wants all roads to lead to the Army or Navy because this is where the demand is. This is the same reason why the Army and Navy always have larger reenlistment bonuses in an attempt to draw members from other services. If there was suddenly a day where the Army was over strength and the USMC badly needed people, you would see the USMC accept Army basic training as an equivalent. This happened between 1987-1989. The USMC numbers had fallen and the DoD decided to increase their total numbers by about 20,000. For a three year period, Soldiers could enlist into the USMC without having any additional training. Its all about "force shaping" from the perspective of the joint chiefs and the Secretary of Defense and has little to do with the training itself.. The Army only accepts USMC basic as an equivalent to theirs and requires USAF and Navy individuals to go through "Warrior Transition Course" or a mini 5 week basic for prior service members.

Well when you look at who's in the fight and who's not - Gotta say Army and the Marines - while the Navy's out on a boat and the AF goes flying around and not kicking down any doors, the two Ground-pounding A**kicking branches are knockin down doors, fighting terrorists and insurgents, and still come home for dinner with the wife and kids..

This is a wierd question.
Like trying to say what basketball player out of an entire team is the best.
you might have your standouts..the Kobes' or the michael jordan's but lets not forget they are only one person.
So is it with the different branches of the armed forces.
Each has a specific role to play as part of the American Team.
So to try to single one branch out is useless and unfair to the supporting role.
Ask whos the most courageous of them all...I answer every soldier who willingly goes into war knowignt hey might not come back -- even leaving loved ones and baby's they have never seen behind to do their duty.
Instead of trying to make someone stand out more than the others..pay them all they tribute they deserve and support them all equally -- as they are all in harms way.

The Navy is the best overall. Air Force is definitely the panzies of the services. The Marines and Army are tough but not smart enough. The Navy is tough and smart which is a great combination. Even though the Navy is tough we prefer to be lovers.

They all can. It just depends what exactly you need done. I've had friends or family in every service and at different times and in different jobs and they all were glad to have the other branches around. They all serve their purpose and they all kick @ss. But if I had to say one I'd say army because I'm closer to it (husband is army and my dad and grandfather were too)

Although I was Army and should vote Army, I would have to say the Marine Corp. Their is a brotherhood there that should get applied to all the armed forces.

Navy. Why?
It is the only branch to wage war on every surface of the eatrh. On the water, ships. Under the water, ,divers, subs. In the air, jets. On the land, special forces. It is generally accepted that Seals are the toughest Special Forces outfit, hardest training, hardest to complete.
The Navy also has the biggest guns.
