I love body mods, i have my navel, nose, helix on both ears, and lobes pierced, i'm wanting a tattoo(or two) and more piercings(sp?). As much as i love body mods I see people with some ummm "unique" piercings like eyelid piercings, or people who have their nipple or navel gauged ( I didn't think that was physically possible) My question is when it comes to body mods, what do you think is acceptable and what body mods do you think are just plain crazy? What's the weirdest body mod you've ever seen?

Please be polite and open-minded when answering.

While I have seen everything from a-z in my days, I still feel that the strangest things I have seen are the extreme mods done to genitals and the removal of nipples. I have nothing against that, since it was their personal liking and choice.

As far as gauging navel and nipples and other piercings, extreme caution and care is taken to not ruin those parts of the body. As someone who has gauged many piercings, my own and others, I can respect the time, patience and pain one goes through to have something they like.

(By the way, if you look on bmezine.com there is a huge article about eyelid piercings and why they are not really widely done by 99% of piercers)

I think the acceptable mods are the ones you do for yourself, that you get things that suit who you are. They are the things you research and learn about before you just go ahead and do it. The acceptable mods are never ones you ask for others opinions on, you know it won't matter if it was really just for you. Acceptable is being happy with your mods and living in your skin the way you wish. Regret is not something people who get mods should feel, tattoos especially should be self reflective and meaningful, now and later.

The unacceptable mods are done by people 'just because', out of boredom or because someone suggested it will look nice.

I think body modification is a very beautiful and unique thing to do. and I have even more respect fot people who do it for religious reasons. I know alot of people who look at the people in african tribes and laugh at all their mods, and I think that is just plain ignorant. The most unique and instersting body mod I've seen? I like the neck stretching that the Pai Dong Long people do. the females do it, they're called trinkets, its part of their culture and I love it. here's a pic of it if you havent seen it: http://www.gluckman.com/LongNeck.html

What I dont like about tattoos, piercings, body mods, etc....is when people do it because its the "in" thing, or because someone has it. ever since I was younger, I thought body mods were amazing, and couldn't wait until I was old enough to get them. I even thought of becoming a piercer. I do think that people should be open minded about these types of things, and respect the people who get them. I hate it when people stereotype and pick on people who get body mods done. because they dont know the story on why people get them, and who they are as a person. Its a form of self-expression. especially tattoos....I am always interested in the stories people tell me about why they got a particular tattoo. they all fascinate me. I have the top and bottom of my navel pierced, my nose, 2 holes in each ear, cartilage, my tongue. Piercings I want: I would love to pierce my lip but my lips are too full, industrial, but my ears are too thin. I'm planning on stretching my 1st and 2nd ear holes, getting an orbital piercing, and a tragus. when I finally decide on what I want tattooed....I will be getting some. I love the huge back pieces. the time, detail, and talent involed...has me in awe.

Rightly or wrongly, many people who own and manage businesses find that the presence of employees with tattoos and piercings is bad for business -- some customers are scared, and others think they are indications of the drug culture. Some will hire tattooed and pierced people only if they are completely covered up at all times while on the job. Others -- major corporations -- will not hire anybody with any tattoo or piercing anywhere on the body, and the way they do that is to invite the final candidate and spouse, if any, to an "executive weekend" with tennis, swimming, and even sauna. And they look. Things will probably change, but right now people who get tattoos and piercings are limiting themselves professionally in many, many fields, as well as eliminating themselves from access to many entry-level jobs all across the job spectrum, and they should know that before they proceed. It is NOT unlawful discrimination to refuse to hire people with tattoos and piercings.

I believe that there are no limits, AS long as the person getting the body mods doesn't regret a single one of them.

As soon as a person says to you 'Oh, I got my helix pierced/guaged my ears to 00, but I dunno, does it look okay?' that's personally when I think the person has reached their limit. It might be at a simple ear piercing, or after the hundredth one.

On the other hand, a person can get a thousand piercings in every place imaginable, and tattoo 99% of their body, and as long as they don't regret a single one of them, it's all good with me.

It's the regret that really kills body mods for me. If a person is unsure of themself of their modifications, it makes the mods themselves really unappealing to me. However if a person carries themself with an air of confidence, sure of themself, their mods, and their decisions, any piercing or tattoo, anywhere on their body and no matter how crazy, will look great on them to me.

Tattoos are absolutely awsome and beautiful! It's pure art. It's the same as painting a pic on a canvas but the body is your canvas. My opinion is the whole facial piercings. ex;eyebrows, lip, etc. I saw one guy that had his nose, eyebrow, ears all pierced and a chain that connected them all together.*rolls eyes* now granted to each their own but that was a little rediculous. You don't have to be "cool" to get a piercing or tattoo, it's should be more about you. I have my tongue and belly button pierced and 2 earings in each ear. So im not totally against piercings. i chose my placeings according to the kind of job that i wanted. I wanted a professional office type setting and did not think it appropriate to have metal on my face for people to get offended by. I have 4tattoos and plan to get 5 more. I also plan on taking our oldest son to get his first tattoo in 4yrs. He's excited.:-)

i love body mods
it is a culture i have embraced - it is a massive part of my life!
remember there is no such thing as a "unique" piercing.. people are always copying others so there is never a mod that only one person has!

i think anything you want to do is acceptable, none of them are crazy! i figure that if someone puts the time and effort into modding their body into a way that they think is beautiful then we cannot judge them!

i am getting one of my toes cut off as a mod - that one is considered rather odd!

i like all the things people do that they put thought into. if they picked it because they thought about it and think it really suits them and their personality it usually looks like it belongs. when it belongs, it looks good. the true modifications people make because they love them always look great no matter what or where they are.

i hate the results when people pick tattoos off walls because they think it's the cool thing to do, or get pierced because their friend is and they want to fit in. it always looks akward or sorta dumb, then.

i don't really like anything tribal on people. those designs are just tattoo art for the sake of tattoo art. the worst thing i ever saw was a forty year old guy with a tattoo of casper the ghost smoking a joint on his bicep. it really looked BAD.

Acceptable is being comfortable in your own skin. No matter what you do, someone always has to make a comment. When I'm finished, my tats will cover most of my body, but people comment about the few I have already! I'll feel more normal with the tats than I do now!!! As for crazy, I have to admire someone with enough balls to let someone take a scalpel and split their tongue in half......without anesthetic!!!!!!!!!

It isn't really wierd to me but the corset piercings are up there, I know they're mostly for fun cause the don't last a while, but those are weird in a way, and the guy who got the eyeglass piercing [he got a bridge piercing and attached aluminum brackets to his face] - thats just too weird!

i think it only gets over the line of acceptabilty when its unconvenient, like eye piercings? thats gonna cause problems, like the piercing between thumb and index finger looks cool hurts a lot for ages. and "personal" piercings, acceptable, but a bit far for me, i have above my nipple pierced(did it myself, twice) and thats fine, but right through my nippple, i wouldnt like that. i think the scarification n branding things a bit mad, but on some ppl iv seen, totally rocks.
love my tats, tats rule.
