does your cat cover up his poop or does he just leave it there in the litter box uncovered?
yes, there is a reason behind the question...
i have a cat who just leaves his poop uncovered & i find that odd because all the other cats i have owned always covered up their poop.

Hi Christy... both my kitties use the human toilet...however does it count that they flush--like covering it up? ;-)
Some people have cats who just won't cover up their own feces. This goes back to the instinct of wild cats who leave the feces exposed as a calling card to tell other cats this is my territory even if there's no other cats around--a form of territorial marking.
[edit] toilet training can be learned through several methods. I used a sitz bath inside the toilet bowl with flushable kitty litter (World's Best Cat Litter). It took 4 months to train two kittens on one toilet so it went a little slower than if it was just only one kitty. Anyhow, here's the two more popular methods people use to toilet train cats:

I had a "guest cat" that did not cover his poop and I put that down to establishing his presence with my two other cats. My 2 males cover their poop fastidously. In fact, when I see the litter granules formed into a hill in the middle of the litter box, then I know there's a 'brick' burried there... hee hee hee.

I don't know about your cat, but mine cover his poop only if the litter is really really clean. otherwise, he just let it uncovered.
I also saw him several time scratch the litter, but not necessary to cover the poop. I guess the instinct told him to scratch, but as he's not in the nature, he doesn't know why, he doesn't have to really cover it.

Dear Christy***
...and I bet he is the "master" of your home. Yes, my big boy (15kg) does the same, and just let anyone else use his litter box!!
He was the first one in the home, when the rest arrived they knew who was the boss.
My latest kitten (10kg), loves to wind him up by constantly jumping on him and biting his tail, specially when he is lying sleeping.
It is definately territorial!!, for him.
Annnnnnnnnnddddddd, I must know every time he does his poop, because he will call me from the top of the stairs with a loud meeeeouuw or anywhere, so that I remove it immediately!!!! how's that for a clever boy!!
Lot of love

I've had both kinds. I even had one a long time ago who, after using the litter box for 3 years, suddenly decided our bathtub was the only place to go. Cats are very strange people!

I have 2 cats and one of each. One covers immediately, the other leaves it uncovered until his next trip to the box. (He just started doing this BTW and it's not going over well with me!)

In my household my female cats cover their fecal matter up but the males don't. I'm not sure why this is but thats what I have observed over the 30 years I have been owned by cats.

hi!
I have two cats, and i also find that kind of weird!!
I have a female cat who always covers her poop, and a male cat who never does!!!
I think you're right, it must be territorial because my cat (the female) has never NOT covered her poop...!!

My cats cover it. But when I was at Animal Kingdom I saw the tiger just leave it there and not cover it. Maybe your cat just knows you'll clean it either way so it doesn't bother.

I had two cats a while ago who would never bury their business. My current kitty buries though.
LOL---flushes! I wish my kitty was able to use the human toilet.
