reading novels will definitely expand your vocabulary, and reading has the advantage that if you aren't sure what a word means, you can often work it out from the context.

You should probably read more books, and possibly novels, if you wish to become better at writing and reading. Usually, though, reading novels helps you write better.

Cliffs notes has a book to better write. You will speak better if you expand your vocabulary.
