So on Friday, November 24th we got our kitten neutered. Everything was fine, the surgery went fine but when we brought him home, he started making this weird coughing sound. It is very similar to when they have a hairball and want to cough it out. The thing that puzzled me is the next day, when we took him to the vet..the sound was gone and he wasn't making the sound. Right now, he's sleeping soundly but the sound comes about after we give him the medication. He puked today and yesterday and I figure its a reaction to the medicine so we stopped.

I just want to know why he would make such a sound after surgery because none of our other cats ever made a sound. The vet said he was fine but he still coughs every now and then. Please help, any advice will be helpful :)

Your cat may have been intubated for surgery - a small tube is placed into his airway so he may breathe during surgery. sometimes this can cause a little bit of irritation, causing a cough that may last for a few days. Be sure to let your veterinarian know that you stopped the medication because he vomitted and at the same time, you can ask if he was intubated. Best wishes!

The coughing could desire to be the sign of an allergic reaction to too plenty vaccine. If the cough is going untreated, it may desire to alter into an top respiration an infection. I recommend you call the Vet and ask if there is something you're able to do without bringing kitty lower back in...whilst people are allergic to issues, they could take Benedryl. i do no longer comprehend what over the counter drugs you'll be able to desire to grant a cat...quite whilst the cat could are transforming into smaller a ailment whilst on the Vet's place of work. in the event that they made a mistake like that with my cat, i might replace Vets in a heartbeat! Cats are thoroughly and fully diverse from canines. they don't have a good number of tangible tolerance for go-over drugs. as an instance, giving a cat anesthesia is rather, very problematic on a cat, while it incredibly is quite no subject with a canines. If it have been my cat, i could be stricken...eating or no longer. Coughing should not be at a loss for words with attempting to expel fur balls. there's a various difference. Coughing to expel fur balls could be quite remedied with fur ball expectorant. actual coughing isn't reliable.

Sometimes, when animals are taken to vets or kennels, they will pick up a "kennel cough" I don't know what the medical term is but it a dry cough and it will go away... There could have been another animal in there with kennel cough..it's only picked up in places where lots of animals go in and out.

The medication, may be bothering him. Maybe just a raw throat from the anaesthetic.

Good that you took him back to the vet.. I think he will be over it in a few days.

hope he feels better soon.

Hey!
I would think that it dislikes the taste of it very much and is just trying to get rid of the gross taste in it's mouth..
Don't stress!! Just ask a vet about the cough if it continues after you finish giving it the medication (as in no longer need to give the medication any more)
..it doesnt really sound that bad, so don't panick!!!!

His throat may be irritated from the oxygen tube that was inserted down his throat during surgery. Wait a few days and if this is all it is, the cough will go away.
